Less than a week to go on my 2nd sabbatical

It is less than a week to go on my 2nd sabbatical and don't have a lot to show for it: nothing like I had hoped.

Still, I move ahead.

In the last couple of days:
* transferred DVDs to slim cases. This opened up additional room for new DVDs. It is amazing how many DVDs I can get in a Film Noir Boxed set that originally had only 5 DVDs. It is also amazing just how many Film Noir movies there are, according to a list on IMDB and how few of them we have (and we have many).
* hung art in the bathroom. This took one large oil painting that was propped on a bookshelf and put it on the wall. Other pieces were correspondingly re-arranged to look better and to open up additional wall space. I also hung all but one of the plates I had sitting there (for years) waiting to be hung.
* found places for books in my office which had been stacked around my chair. This was made possible mostly by the opening of a book shelf in the bathroom.
* inventoried and re-boxed more spare dishes in the basement and pulled up/recycled several cardboard boxes. The basement is actually starting to open up again. It will take months to work on this but come 2013 we may have a manageable basement. I was reading a book by Don Aslett about how it is advisable to seal a concrete floor. Now that it is relatively dry down there and will soon have more open floor space, I can think about patching the cracks in the walls and floor...then painting and finally sealing everything.

If we get any further break in the weather (it was mostly cloudy today but no rain), I will mow the lawn and will work on cleaning the rocks (for the rock garden) using the wire mesh I recently got at Ace Hardware. If the break lasts 3 days I can fix the extra hole on one rain barrel and try to caulk up the leak in the other. I will also do more weeding, picking through for rocks and review the back lot for what must be done next with the stumps. I will just keep working all of this through the Fall and Winter as I can during dry spells.

Rainy weather: cleaning up my office, putting a handle on a small chest, backing the new art I just got, and adding connectors to ethernet cables in preparation for hooking up 1st floor computers to the wired network.

Also I have tapes to digitize and the Mr. Smooth Show to finish.

rain barrels, bathroom, cleaning, mr. smooth, hardware store, basement, rock garden
