Basement Open For Business!

May 24, 2010 01:00

After four days, the basement of our house is ready for work.

There is a clear path to the furnace.

The workbench is more accessible.

Computers are clustered in another section nearby.

Also, rains today brought water into the basement. I observed the water come through the basement floor. When the weather dries up I will make sure to sweep that area and then seal it up.

It is a lot easier to discover where the basement is having problems when it is not clogged up with stuff.

I did not go to the dump today as I thought. Besides two ruined fiberboard furniture pieces, all I had were several bags of styrofoam and miscellaneous stuff: not a full load. So I parked everything out back to wait for a full load.

Will take a picture tomorrow morning. I am proud our basement is functional again. Now I can start picking away at the storage boxes and deciding how to get rid of their contents.

First thing I will do is actually do an estimate of the number of boxes we have. Then I can keep a running total of boxes and start tracking the progress.

However, the work's main purpose is done: the installers of the heating/cooling system should be able to successfully remove my old furnace and hook up the new one. They are supposed to begin tomorrow morning and complete the work by the end of Wednesday.

By Saturday we should be rid of the bar in the dining room and we can buy a new single bed for Betty. I will also try to get rid of the nice waterfall vanity in the front room, but it is not a priority at this point.
