2009 scored

Dec 31, 2009 00:14

2009 was a really bad year in that I scored only 10/36. Interestingly, without looking at the 2009 list when I wrote the 2010 list, many of the items are back! A few unachieved goals have not returned for various reasons although the general direction is the same.

A few things were very unrealistic...like the one Ebay purchase per month concept. I have switched from a limit to a re-focus...with the hope that the result will still mean fewer online purchases.

I was able to rebuild the slush fund to $7,000 but then had to knock it down toward the end of the year. Again, I won't hold to a particular figure but instead focus on doing things that are sweat-brain equity rather than on spending, allowing me to save more.

Some achievements outside the list were also included and others were forced upon us (the new bookshelves were the former, the water heater and consequent basement work the latter).

To get a better score, though, we need to focus more on time management, not getting depressed or anxious and not falling off the path for one reason or another. For one thing, I at least need to refer to my 2010 list at least once a month. In 2009 I wrote the list and never looked at it until now!

This is what I said I would do for 2009. 0 means not achieved, 1 means achieved:
0 Prepare coffee for 4:50 a.m.
0 Wake at five daily, breakfast at 7, out at 7:30, get back home at 5, dinner at 6.
0 Daily calisthenics.
1 Better treatment of body on a daily basis.
1 More belongings (including clothes, dishes, books, records) to trash, thrift stores.
0 Complete new wardrobe of socks, underwear, pants, shirts, shoes by ironing, mending, buying and properly storing a set that is minimal yet extensible (and clothes that do not work should GO).
0 Restrict spending to only one Ebay purchase per month.
0 Rebuild slush fund to $15,000 after 2008 losses.
0 Continue aggressive retirement savings.
0 Cleanliness before entertainment (keep ahead on the dishes).
1 Complete Star Trek DVD collection and finish Star Trek chronology viewing until the movie.
0 Do house research Thursday nights and use Tri-Met on those days.
0 Go to one house renovation related workshop a month.
0 Better storage of what is kept, enabling better use or identification for tossing.
0 Redefine work space for better ergonomics, Marvin and paper-access.
0 Front room redefined.
0 Strip cabinets and install in bathroom.
0 Set up weather station and install software.
0 Continue to corral and organize data, back it up.
0 Continue to digitize music and productions, back it up.
1 Right before turning off heat, install new round setback thermostat.
1 Right after turning off heat, shut down all power and put in closet fixture.
0 Get new bicycle working and ride once a week (minimum).
0 Install software to continue planning house changes.
0 Set up metal shelves in basement (3 sets).
0 Become an expert in computer program testing at work.
1 Continue pushing on computer program development already started.
0 Take down blackberries and grapes.
1 Cut down overgrown bushes and dead tree.
1 Replace dead tree with tall bush to help hide neighbor's house.
0 Remove redundant wire fence.
0 Dig up backyard and put in new turf. Goal: croquet on July 4!
1 Visit my Dad at least once.
0 Remove carpet from at least one location and fix floor, buy nice rug.
1 Correspond regularly or at least once a year on a timely basis with friends and family, maintaining contact information for all in an easily found location.
0 Target end of year to hire a planner for house projects.
