Arg! We have had some adjusting to do in the past several days: all necessary but none we really wanted to do.
danceswithfish has had headaches and teeth pains which have become progressively worse. At first we thought it might be sinus infection (this has happened to me before), but pain was made worse by cold food (popsicles): a clear sign of a tooth issue. By the time we knew this it was Sunday so she was able to call in an emergency appointment for Monday. As the area of her pain was around where she had a crown installed a year or so ago, I predicted it was time for a root canal (this happened to me in 1997, a few years after I had a crown installed).
Yep, as she discovered today, it is root canal time for
danceswithfish. The earliest she could get in for the oral surgery is on the same day I had scheduled my procedure (in a completely different part of my body). As we are going to have to depend on each other and my procedure is not required immediately, I will reschedule mine (and the requisite clearing out business the few days before).
Meanwhile we have been concerned about Betty. She fell in her room and also collapsed while being assisted (and then grew extremely agitated). So, to cope, she was heavily medicated and when we came to visit her she was fast asleep. However, Sunday she was awake and her old self again. She told us about when a policeman several years ago had to ask that she stop driving after she was involved in a car accident. Of course, Marisa had to explain to me what her mom was talking about but I definitely heard the word policeman.
We used Saturday to clear out almost everything remaining from her old room (303) in Harvest Homes. The boxes from that were stacked up in our living room and dining room. Add that to all the other stuff we have been sorting through and trying to move to the basement for temporary storage...and we have a very messy house.
Then Sunday we moved her big vanity/drawers. We cracked the mirror in one corner during the move. The rest of the day was involved in replacing one set of drawers with Betty's that was about the same size. Most of the six or so hours was spent moving things out of the way so the move upstairs would be mostly painless...and it was! Then I moved the old set of drawers downstairs, where it now sits on our front porch ready for donation to the thrift store. Most of the things I moved were replaced before I went to bed, but I still have a few things to put back!
Even though the new furniture item is about the same size as what it replaced, its drawers appear to hold fewer things, so I will also have to reduce a few clothing items to compensate. In fact, the overall length is about a half-foot more, so I had to buy taller but skinnier storage to take care of the books. Also, the barrel chair which just fit by the window no longer fits.
Oh, well, more adjustments to make on more things.
