The Doll Shop.
Frank clung to Gerard.
Is this what it felt like?
To be loved, to feel safe?
He loved the feeling of the Doll’s arms around him, this was his sanctuary.
The small boy shifted and buried his face in the pale Doll’s chest.
He felt the strong arms tighten slightly around his waist.
He breathed deeply.
He loved that scent.
The scent of Gerard that lingered in the air long after the Doll had left.
Frank couldn’t get enough of it.
He burrowed further into the taller boy’s chest.
More, he needed more.
Gerard laughed and dropped a light kiss into Frank’s mattered hair.
“You’re gorgeous Frankie.” Gerard whispered.
Frank roughly pulled himself from the warm circle of Gerard’s arms.
He tried not to notice the look that transformed Gerard’s face from utter content to thinly veiled pain.
“I need to shower.” Frank whispered.
Frank stared at the door.
“Uh, sure Frankie.” The Doll whispered.
Frank risked a sidelong glance at the Doll, before jumping and running from the room.
Doors slammed behind him as he tried to get as far away from the feelings that had consumed him as possible.
He leant back against the unforgiving wood of the bathroom door and tried to calm his pounding heart.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
How many times did he have to keep telling himself this?
Gerard is a Doll!
A Doll for fuck sake.
Frank shook his head and shied away from any thoughts of Gerard as anything more than a friend.
Frank shuddered, or property.
Prying himself from the door, Frank reached for around the shower curtain and turned the shower on.
He knew without even having to look that his name would be found on Gerard’s right wrist.
A mark to inform everyone that Gerard was his, not anyone else’s.
Frank pulled his shirt off as the water slowly heated filling the room with a mist.
Pulling the string that only just held his pants up, Frank shuddered as the cold air hit his body as he pants dropped soundlessly to the floor.
He jumped into the ball and pulled the curtain closed behind him, he fiddled with the taps, turning them until the water temperature was just right.
Golden skin turned a faint pink as the hot water pounded heavily down on his shoulders.
What was he going to do about this?
How was he going to deal with his mother when she got back?
And the people at school, how were they going to deal with knowing he had gotten a Doll?
School, school he could just ignore for the moment, he two days to figure it all out before he had to go back, two days of spending time with only Gerard.
Frank reached for the shampoo and slowly began to lather up his hair.
What was he going to do with those days?
Tipping his head back, Frank allowed the water to wash away the shampoo.
They could go to the mall?
Frank shook his head as he worked the conditioner into his hair.
No, not the mall, it was a Saturday. Everyone was at the mall on a Saturday.
He bit his lip as the conditioner disappeared down the drain.
He stood beneath the warm spray, just thinking.
He laughed suddenly as the thought of the perfect place they could disappear to.
Turning the water off, Frank wrenched the shower curtain open, quickly wrapped a towel around his waist and rushed from the room.
His dark hair dripped cooling water down his back, sending shivers down his spine.
Barging into his room, Frank searched for the pale Doll.
Brown eyes skipped over dirty clothes, piles of books and tattered paper before falling on the black haired boy in the corner behind his bed gently strumming Frank’s acoustic guitar.
“I didn’t know you played Frankie.” Gerard said without looking up.
“Oh, yeah, I’ve been playing for ages.”
Gerard nodded as his fingers stumbled over some chords.
“Do you play?” Frank asked.
Gerard laughed quietly.
“No, I couldn’t play to save my life.”
Frank watched in fascination as the he chewed on his lip.
“But I sing.” He said quietly.
Frank’s eyes lit up.
“Really?” He exclaimed.
Gerard nodded and gently placed the guitar back in its place before looking up to meet Frank’s excited smile with a nervous one of his own.
His fingers clenched when he saw what Frank was wearing, or more precisely what he wasn’t wearing.
“Uh, Frankie?”
The small boy’s smiled faltered.
“Yes, Bumble- Bee?”
The pale Doll swallowed.
“Why are you only wearing a towel?”
A lovely shade of pink blossomed in Frank’s cheeks.
“Oh, shit, uh.” Frank scratched the back oh his head causing his short hair to stick up in odd angles.
Gerard giggled.
Frank pouted.
“Not funny!”
Gerard continued to laugh.
“Are you kidding me?! It’s so like you I just have to laugh!”
Frank pushed his bottom lip out even further.
Gerard rolled over onto his side and disappeared from view. His girlish laughter bounced off the walls.
Frank smiled and rolled his eyes at the Doll’s antics.
“Alright then Bumble- Bee, you’ve made your point, you can stop laughing now!”
The pale Doll continued to laugh, Frank pouted again. He was getting good at it.
“I forgot my clothes!” he protested, Gerard laughed harder.
“Well fine I was going to tell you about our wonderful plans for today, but if you just want to lay there laughing at my misfortune then go for it!”
A smirk formed on Frank’s lips as a pair of hazel eyes peered out from behind his bed.
“Plans?” A voice asked.
Frank nodded.
The eyes blinked.
“For us?”
Frank laughed.
“Of course dumbass, who else would I make plans for?”
Dark hair fell down to shield one of the eyes from view.
“I just thought you had friends or…” the Doll’s voice trailed off.
Frank frowned.
“Or?” he prompted.
“A girlfriend?” the voice squeaked.
Frank blinked a couple of time, allowing Gerard’s words to fully sink in.
Peals of laughter burst from his chest causing Gerard to jump.
The Doll frowned.
“What’s so funny?” he demanded.
Frank took in his confused expression and promptly collapsed to the floor showing more leg than any decent person would when his towel slipped slightly.
Not that Gerard minded.
He was quiet enjoying the view actually.
He crawled over to where the small boy was clutching his stomach.
“Frankie!” the Doll demanded while eyeing the curve of the smaller boy’s thigh where it disappeared from via beneath the towel.
“Tell me what is so damn funny!”
Frank allowed the laughter to die away as he pulled himself to a seating position.
Gerard almost pouted when Frank arranged the towel so it obscured his view.
Frank had a huge grin on his face as he faced Gerard.
“Well Mister Oblivious.”
Gerard pouted at the words but broke out into a smile when Frank lent over to kiss his cheek gently.
“Just teasing.” He whispered.
Grinning Frank sat back and fiddled with the edge of his towel.
“If you haven’t already noticed, I’m not exactly like the typical guy.”
Gerard nodded.
“So?”
Frank laughed.
“So, what do you mean ‘So’? Do you know anyone else that spends at least an hour and a half on their hair alone?”
Gerard ducked his head and allowed his hair to fall into his face.
“I don’t know anyone else other than you Frankie.”
Frank’s eyes widened and he mentally slapped himself.
“Shit, uh, yeah, I completely forgot about the whole “Doll” thing.”
Gerard nodded intent on pulling invisible lint of his pajamas.
He had forgotten too…
Frank rushed back into his explanation, hoping to distract the silent Doll.
“Uh, but yeah, guys generally don’t spend more than ten to twenty minutes on their hair, tops. But me, I spend more than five times that getting everything right.”
Gerard nodded again, his hazel eyes showing little of what he was actually feeling.
“Oh, and also, guys don’t generally wear makeup or pink belts.”
Gerard raised an eyebrow at the last comment.
Frank blushed and looked nervously around the room.
“So yeah, because of my weird urge to wear makeup and wear pink belts people tend to avoid me, because of what I am.”
Gerard frowned.
“Wearing makeup is a bad thing?”
Frank rubbed the back of his neck and frowned.
“Yeah, wearing makeup is a bad thing.”
Gerard bit his lip.
“But that doesn’t make any sense!” He exclaimed.
“Why would wearing makeup be a bad thing?”
Frank gently nibbled on the cool metal of his lip ring.
“Because I’m a guy and guys don’t wear makeup.”
“But I do!”
Frank shook his head.
“You’re a Doll Gerard, you’re an exception.”
“But…”
“Look Gee, it doesn’t matter, I don’t have friends or a girlfriend, and I’m generally avoided at school.”
Or when I’m not being avoided, I’m being pummeled into a bloody heap he thought.
Gerard opened his mouth to object.
“Gee, just drop it okay?” Frank stood and walked out of the room, he returned quickly with a towel in one hand.
“Go have a shower.” He said, a tired smile curving his lips.
“We’ve got things to do today.”
Gerard clamped his mouth shut and rose to his feet.
He knew Frank wasn’t telling him the whole truth, but he just had to trust that Frank would tell him eventually.
He nodded as he took the towel from the small boy.
“Okay.”
Frank looked relieved when Gerard didn’t question the abrupt change in subject.
“Where’s the bathroom?”
Frank wiped his hands on the towel around his waist.
“Down the hall first door on the left.”
Gerard nodded and grabbed his bag before heading towards the door.
He paused and looked back at the boy standing in the middle of the room.
“What are we doing today Frankie?”
Frank smile lit up the room.
“Trying to ruin my fun huh?”
Gerard smiled.
“No, I just want to know what to wear.”
Frank laughed.
“Just something that fits into these two categories.”
He raised his hand and assigned each category to a finger.
“One, it’s going to be wet, two, it’s going to be cold.”
Gerard frowned.
“I have to wear something that fits into those categories?”
Frank laughed.
“Wear something that will keep you warm.”
Gerard heaved an exaggerated sigh.
“Why couldn’t you just say that?”
Frank frowned.
“Cause that would have been no fun!” Frank exclaimed.
Gerard laughed.
“But of course, mustn’t ruin Frankie’s fun now!”
Frank nodded.
“No you shouldn’t.”
He waved his hands in a shooing motion.
“No go, have a shower, we have places to be, people to avoid!”
Gerard sent a questioning look in the small boy’s direction.
Frank just winked.
“Go!” he exclaimed.
“Alright, Alright I’m going!”
Gerard laughed as he walked towards the bathroom.
Today was definitely going to be interesting.
