The Doll Shop.

Frank’s eyes flickered to rest on Gerard for a split second before returning to the shop owner.

“Are you sure he is the one I’m supposed to take home?”

The shop owner stared blankly at him.

“I mean, uh, I, um” Frank looked down at his shoes, avoiding her gaze.

“Are you sure, that I shouldn’t have a different doll? It’s just that he is really pretty, and well, I’m just me. And what happens if he gets hurt, I would never be able to live with myself if that happened!” His voice chocked up at the end. Forcing him to stop.

Realization dawned on the shop keeper’s face as she watched as Frank fiddled with his shirt sleeve. She reached out and gently forced Frank’s eyes up to meet hers.

“I trust you Frank. And even though Gerard is a Doll, he can look after him self,” She hesitated before adding, “In some ways.”

She dropped her hand.

“Frank, I don’t randomly choose names out of a hat to decide who gets the next doll. I watch and I listen, and then I choose the doll that’s right for that person. I’ve had my eye on you for a very long time Frank, I’ve seen what you’ve been through, I watch as those boys follow you home, throwing insults and punches, and I watch as you always travel alone.”

Frank looked down again.

“Don’t be upset Frank, it’s not your fault.”

Frank’s eyes flashed up to meet hers before he went back to counting the scuff marks on his shoes.

“It isn’t Frank. You’re a strong person. I can see that, you’ve just been hurt one too many times. Gerard wasn’t made specifically for you, no doll is. I don’t create these Dolls with someone in mind. I create them with the thought that these Dolls have to live.”

She reached out and tenderly brushed some hair out of Gerard’s face.

“You’re the best match for Gerard Frank, he can help you, and you can help him. I am sure that he is the one that you’re supposed to take home.”

Frank nodded slowly and turned to look at Gerard once again.

He watched as a piece of hair fell into his face. Hesitantly Frank reached out and gently brushed it back, his fingers lingered on his pale cheek.

“Good, now to wake him up.”

Frank snatched his hand away, and turned to the shop owner who was staring at him avidly.

“Well go on then!” She waved her hands at Frank.

Frank’s brow creased in confusion.
“What am I supposed to do?” He whispered.

“Do what you think is right.”

Frank’s blank stare caused her to sigh in frustration. She went up to Frank and turned him around to face Gerard.

Standing behind him she gently whispered into his ear.

“Close your eyes.”

Frank shifted uncomfortably.
Her fingers dug slightly into his arms.

“Close your eyes Frank.”

Frank stopped fidgeting and slowly let his eyes fall shut.

“Now, I want you to concentrate on Gerard. Feel him near you. Listen for the sound of his breathe. You’ll find the answer.”

Her fingers relaxed and slipped from his arms.

Frank shifted slightly.
Why was he doing this?

He sighed.
He couldn’t do this, it didn’t make any sense.

“Concentrate Frank!”
The shop owner’s voice pierced through his thoughts and forced him to stand still.

“Slow your breathing down and just listen. Take a deep breath in, hold it, than slowly let it out.”

Frank breathed in deeply, filling his lungs, holding onto it briefly, he than slowly let the air rush out into the open.

He slowly felt himself relax, his awareness heightened slightly and he could feel Gerard standing in front of him.
Slowly taking in another deep breath, he felt himself consumed by him.

Everything seemed so incredibly right, and everything made perfect sense. He was in heaven.

How much time had passed, didn’t seem important as Frank drifted. The answer was yet to come.

Frank’s breathe hitched, there, the answer.

Eyes snapping open and Frank stepped closer to Gerard.

He briefly felt Gerard’s breath ghost over his cheek, as he turned slightly and lent into the other boys ear.

He hesitated for a moment, breathing in the heady scent that surrounded Gerard.

“It’s time to wake up Gerard. Gerard, I’ve found you, it’s going to be okay now, wake up Gerard. Wake up baby, everything is okay, you’re safe. It’s Frank, baby, everything is going to be alright. Wake up Gee, wake up. ”

Frank kept whispering into the boy’s ear, telling him that everything was okay, that it was safe to wake up. That he, Frank was going to look after him.

He didn’t know how long he had been standing there, whispering these things, but it felt right so he didn’t give it much thought.

Slowly he felt the body pressed lightly against his start to move, muscles tensed and relaxed, breathe hitched before returning to normal, fingers flexed.

Frank reluctantly stepped away, and turned to the Shop Keeper.

She smiled.

“Well done.” She said.

A small smile flittered across his lips.
“Thank you.”

A gasp seized his attention and Frank turned quickly to watch the awakening of his Doll. His Gerard.

He watched intently as Gerard’s body came to life, eyes moved restlessly beneath flimsy eyelids, fingers curled into fists, shoulders tensed.
Frank almost cooed as Gerard’s lips turned into a small pout and his forehead creased in confusion.

“Come on baby.” He whispered.

Gerard’s face relaxed as he heard Frank’s voice and his eyelids flickered.

Slowly his eyelids slid back, and Frank hissed slightly as they revealed the most beautiful pair of hazel eyes Frank had ever seen.

Gerard blinked owlishly, waiting for his eyes to adjust before they shyly met Franks.

“Hey Baby.” Frank whispered.

“Hello Frankie.”  The boy whispered back.

Frank thought he would almost die as Gerard smiled shyly at him.
He was just too perfect.
