well.
interesting.
turns out I can't add an emphasis from a new academic calendar to a degree from an old one. Okay, fine. Then I find out I can't do anything to a degree once it's been awarded. So no adding emphases, no turning my joint into two singles, nothing. unless i want to petition. which, if I'd actually gotten this information in May when I first asked for it, might have been a consideration. Now, I'd say it's a bit late for that. Too bad, I was rather keen on the notion of having two degrees.
but regardless, I've already applied as a special student, just waiting to hear if they'll take me or not.
also did some closer looking at the grad programs that had caught my attention. apparently york requires, in addition to the expected BA, "a minimum of two years of classroom-based paid language teaching experience or equivalent (as assessed by the Admissions Committee)."
So clearly York is off the menu. Considerations still include UOttawa and Carleton. Not sure where else, most have thesis-based MA programs, which is just not my cup of tea. This is obviously going to take more investigating.
I also have to find out if the degree I have will actually be sufficient to get into an MA program, since it's not technically in Linguistics.
