A Visit to the Dentist

Aug 17, 2012 19:20

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't generally consider a routine visit to the dentist's office to be particularly noteworthy, but in this case it wasn't routine, as that implies something which occurs with a reasonable, short-to-mid-term periodicity. In this particular case, I must admit I haven't been to the dentist in nearly 5 years on account of significant depression, distraction, and lack of insurance. Also, I have very strong teeth and good dental hygiene, which kept tooth and gum issues below my activation threshholds. In the past six months, however, that has changed somewhat... I've had increased bleeding from my gums and (most significantly) worsening breath with a distinctive bouquet of calcium decay. So... I managed to secure some dental coverage for myself and off I went.

The good news is that despite five years of moderate neglect, I have no cavities and only minor periodontal disease. Yay! Tha bad news is that I'm right at the cusp where "Minor" spills over to "Moderate" and so I'll be getting root-planings over the next 2 months. Less Yay! At the least, it'll all be covered by my insurance and with regular checkups and cleanings thereafter, my pearly whites should remain with me a good long time.

That's it for now, except--oh yes--it's too damn hot! :)
