Some consume music, others movies, and others books; all the while finding themselves content. I want to consume the world; not through those things, but first hand. Problem is, I look around and I can't figure out for the life of me how to find the time to do it. Each step I take is progress when shed in a certain light, but I'm still here and ( Read more... )

All I can ask is "where's the next place you want to go?" And then, "what would it take for you to get there?"

Post-college and into my first job, I knew little of my area. I've been to tourist places of LA, via car, and tourist places in Orange County, and other touristy places. But as I've gotten older, and stayed even more single, I've gotten a bit more curious or more interested about the world around me. So I wanted to find out what's out there. I've gotten to push myself out there more. For example, I know Southern California is a region full of drivers but I frequently take the commuter train on the weekends for weekend urban exploration or art gallery hopping or meet up with friends. I live in a small town about 75 minutes south east of LA and about 50 minutes north east of Disneyland but I live near by the eastern most hub of a commuter train station so its a starting point. I've also rediscovered an interest in art since I've stopped reading comic books and have been to art galleries -- either pop culture-centric or pop-surrealism or miniature type of art or other. I like exploring the local areas of big cities as well as the coast line due to living on the West Coast. The PCH drive can be so fantastic. But so are the mountains in my area. Or even the desert during a night time drive. Or the ocean. There are at least five to six more places I want to see in my state. And at least two of them are within a 1.5 to 2 hour drive. Just waiting for the weather to cool down as they are in desert regions.

I know my goals are in a small world of being inside my state, but I guess I live in big state that I haven't fully explored yet or that old things I never knew before are revealed in various mediums.

I know the reason why I am slowly hitting up on all these ideas is due to financial restraint and/or responsibility. I made some really expensive poor decisions in the past as well as not striving harder for goals when I was younger and even now am still paying of some debt that forces me to be more creative on going out ideas. Hence the weekend day trips on the commuter train ($10 all day on the trains and light rail and some buses). But, I am hitting goals or seeing things I've wanted to see. Like last year, on my birthday, I wanted to take the time off from work to revisit Point Mugu State Park Beach. I've been there once before with a friend, and I wanted to go, even if it was by myself. So I did. Took the day off from work, drove through Malibu Canyon which was a first and very cool experience, and hung out there for a bit. (I'm glad I did, because later that year, it poured and the storms that hit that beach wrecked the changing bathrooms and a lifeguard building there as well as tore up that beach. Sigh) I guess I have little ideas or goals of things I want to see. Or maybe I like my state. My next out of state trip will either be Maryland or Missouri, but its to see my brother as he is stationed currently in Missouri but will probably be going somewhere else by mid 2016. So, if he is going somewhere interesting, I'll see him after he moves. But if he isn't, I'd rather visit him in Missouri to hit up a few more things out there.

So, what's your next step on consuming the world? Where is your next destination?
