Summary: Donghae's uneasy about the new technology Hyukjae's company wants him to try out, he's scared.
Things get worse after that day. I keep telling you to tell the company to let you stop, but you insist that they’re still making finishing touches, that soon it will be perfect, that there’s nothing wrong with you, really, you’re just tired. And you put your arms around me with your voice as soothing as aloe vera, and I can’t speak.
But far too often, you come home too disorientated and dizzy to remember which direction you’re facing, and I have to bring you to your room to lie down. Soon I’m keeping your dinner warm for you again as you sleep and come out hours later, claiming that the company’s assigned you a project that’s sucking the life out of you.
And they have. They’re tearing you apart, ripping your atoms from each other and stitching them together again like a Frankenstein monster, all for the sake of precious time. You are and will be created and recreated, again and again, until not just the tattoo is lost, but every part of you, until all semblance of the man I fell in love with is gone.
I hold on. I keep going, clinging on to your reassurance that all this doesn’t have anything to do with the teleportation, that it’s completely natural. That it’s just me being a worrywart again. But eventually the day comes when I hear you stumbling onto the floor outside the kitchen, and I run and take your hands only to hear you scream, “Who are you?”
You apologise to me when you wake up, kissing me, blaming yourself for drinking, for working yourself too hard, but it happens again a week later. And a few days after that.
Even now, you haven’t gotten that tattoo again.

I’m sitting at the kitchen table with a lid over your dinner. I have gotten used to this, letting you take a nap after you come back from work, making dinner without you, waiting for you, eating when I get too hungry, and waiting again. Any more warming will make the potatoes dry and the chicken tough, and I can’t stand seeing you eat food like that after working so hard at the office, like I know you do.
But this time, you’re not home yet.
A year ago, this would have been normal, and I would wait with no anxiety, but instead a silent resignation and longing for you. Now, I still feel the same. I know that I should feel nervous; this time, there is no reason for you to be so late, what with the consistent spectacular results the R&D department has delivered through that round miracle device. Yet, I feel nothing.
The door-sensor beeps and my hands jerks from my hands, but instead of the warmth that tingles in my chest whenever I think of you, cold shoots up my spine instead.
I rise and in a sudden rush, I know everything that is going to happen, that has happened. I do not need any explanation. I do not need to be told that as the days have passed, your atoms have been reassembled with imperceptible error after imperceptible error, until in the end it has destroyed your brain and destroyed your body. I do not need to be told, I do not need to listen to anything they say.
I move my hand to open the door, but I already know that this time, you’re not coming back.
I didn’t get to kiss you goodbye before you left.
I didn’t get to say goodbye at all.
