Costuming posts and a bit about life

First of all, there are new new posts over at my costuming blog:

with an associated Picasa web album for 1830s project pictures!

I am hard at work, seriously buried in books, and plan to spend the next week in the state, because it's spring break and I'm taking advantage of that to get some serious research and sewing in. I also have to whip up a paper for my course on US labor history, do a bunch of readings, and write a prospectus and annotated bibliography for the final paper for my course on The Nineteenth Century Novel and the British Empire. I'm getting quite bored of imperialism BUT the professor approved by rather promising final paper topic, so I'm feeling more optimistic - representations of India and the exotic in Vanity Fair, the relationship between Becky Sharpe and exoticism, and how the exotic is represented in the two major, recent screen adaptations of the novel. I even admitted to my professor that part of my reasoning was that it gave me an excuse to finally getting around to reading Vanity Fair! So now I need to get my paws on a good annotated copy of the novel....hmm.

Tomorrow, I am having breakfast with my dear friend Lyndie, provided she has time between frantic paper-writing and leaving for home in Virginia, then doing some quick bonnet color research and suchlike, and then leaving at 12:30 to go to Springfield with Madeleine for very exciting fabric shopping at Osgood's, which sounds like a very promising place. Then I need to wrangle my internship application for Old Sturbridge Village and get it all scanned and emailed, so that's taken care of in advance of the deadline. Then....who knows? I need to try to work in some grocery shopping if I can persuade Madeleine to make a stop, so that I can, you know, eat. Maybe I'll coax Ali over for dinner.

It will likely be a bit of a lonely week, with most of my friends gone for break, and my fellow gone too. He's really such a darling, and I've become shockingly attached to him. Of course, to look at him one wouldn't be terribly surprised at anyone getting terribly attached! But really, I'll try not to be too exultant about this gorgeous, brilliant, funny, sincere, and genuinely good person who has become part of my life. Oops, I believe that was more exulting. I'm avoiding specifying which certifiably gorgeous movie star he's rather a dead ringer for. And, oh, did I mention that he likes to look at my costume books and particularly admires waistcoats?

Okay, really, I'm done now. Ahem.

In light of sleepiness, the late hour, and my back hurting, I do believe that I shall go to bed now. I have lots to do tomorrow, and I need to be properly rested!
