A silly survey cross-posted from facebook

Mar 03, 2010 03:26

1. This survey gets a little personal; can you handle it?
I feel relatively confident that breaking down in tears is not imminent; therefore yes, it seems I can.

2. If you married the last person you texted, what would your last name be?
Well, Wood, I suppose, but I sincerely doubt that marriage with Lyndie is in my future.

3. Were you happy when you woke up today?
Wonderfully happy, in fact. And remained so until I realized that my back hurt more than I could actually stand.

4. When were you last on the phone? With whom?
Yesterday, with Lyndie. Unless we count when I called Syd's phone yesterday, because he lost it again.

5. Have you talked to a complete jerk today?
Say! I don't think so. How nice. :)

6. Listening to music?
Yup. "The Sound of Settling" by Deathcab for Cutie just came on my playlist. Yum yum.

7. What are you excited for?
Lots of things! Especially when I'm not on deadening opiate painkillers thanks to my unhappy vertebrae. Lately, I'm very excited about historical sewing and the related annotated bibliography I'm writing. Yeah, really. I actually love research and academic stuff when it's of interest to me. I'm also excited about having successfully filed Division II, about almost certainly being able to graduate with my bachelor's in May of '11, about the Old Hollywood murder mystery party that the Hampshire Historical Reenactment Society is doing in May (yes, I'm recycling party ideas, whatever), about having someone to cook for on a regular basis, about hopefully having a good place to live next year, about the possibility of an internship at Old Sturbridge Village this summer, about doing nothing but SEWING all spring break.... I'm a very excited nerd, yep.

8. What were you doing yesterday?
Not getting enough sleep to start with, finishing a lit paper in the morning, running various errands around campus in the afternoon, listening to music and bookmarking images of extant 19th century caps in the MFA collection online for a while, forgetting to eat for most of the day, making carne asada for dinner, and staying up late with Mad Men and good company. :)

9. Honestly, who was the last person to tell you they love you?
My mom, I suppose. Except perhaps in the case of such things as a friend laughing at my antics and saying "Oh, I love you, Ava!" But I'm not sure that's exactly what this question intends. I fact, I think this question is SEEKING CONFESSION. In which case: the last person to tell me they loved me, in the romantically-in-love sense, was my last ex, an on-again-off-again sort of thing, and he probably last said it in October.

10. What's the last thing you put in your mouth?
Uh, probably either the water I'm drinking, or my own fingertips. I tend to absent-mindedly nibble on them. I know, it's a little weird.

11. Have a best friend?
Sort of? Hm.

12. Are you scared to fall in love?
As a rule, yes - of the vulnerability and complexity that falling in love inevitably entails. Not of love itself. Since the real trouble comes in when one TELLS, I generally just try to avoid that bit for as long as possible, while quietly enjoying the lovely brain-drugs associated with the experience and trying not to worry about it too much.

13. Do you think teenagers can be in love?
Yes, uh, sometimes. The word gets thrown around mighty easily though. Even with "grown-ups," I think that love is too much seen as a stage in a relationship between declared sexual exclusivity and moving in together. It's not a stage, or even, strictly speaking, an emotion: it's a state of being. People miss that detail sometimes.

14. Last person you wanted to punch in the face?
Whoever keeps leaving sharp knives in the wooden dishrack in my mod kitchen. A big huge one fell off the other day AND BOUNCED ON MY FOOT. What the hell was it doing there anyway? There is a TOWEL on the windowsill shelf for precisely that purpose. The dish/kitchen situation in this mod makes me seriously violent.

15. What time is it right this second?
8:51 pm.

16. What do you want right now?
I want my back and neck to stop hurting, and also I want dinner. I can do something about the latter problem though. I also want a large bookcase, but can't really afford one - any suggestions, universe?

17. Who was the last person you took a picture with?
Uh, I don't know. The last such instance I can think of is when Kelly was taking pictures at the ValenDance, and got one of me with Lyndie. So let's assume Lyndie, who is apparently the answer to everything. Like 42. heh heh heh. Ahem. Sorry. Anyway.

18. Are you single/taken/heartbroken/o
r confused?
Taken. Didn't really see that coming, honestly, but it's working beautifully. And it results in me doing more cooking, which I love to do, but often don't, because I don't really like to cook for just myself. There are many benefits!

19. When was the last time you cried?
Sometime last week? I was very stressed out, which makes me extra sensitive. But in general, I cry easily.

20. Do you have a good relationship with your parents?
I have a fantastic relationship with my mom. We've really become friends in the last few years, and even though we're completely different, we get along well. She's amazing. I don't speak to my dad. Here's hoping there's some way to remedy that situation someday, but currently, there isn't an option that's acceptable to both of us.

21. Do you find it hard to trust others?
I basically don't trust anyone, unfortunately. I'm trying to get better about that though.

22. How fast does your mind change?
Depends on the situation. And I can't think of any concise way to elaborate on that, so I just...won't. Except to that while I may be wishy-washy about little things, when it's something that really matters, I am a constant sort of creature.

23. I bet you miss somebody right now.
Hmm. Well, in the sense that I moved away from everyone I ever cared about, yes, of course. But I'm where I need to be, and I really have some amazing friends here. And my someone. Who I do not exactly miss at the moment. I like time to myself too! I miss Lindsey more than anyone else, really - my 'best friend' back in California. I would dearly love to be able to spend a day with her, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. And she won't even see my sentimentality, because she boycotts facebook!

24. Can you honestly say you're okay right now?
Physically: argh, my vertebrae fail, but if I take care of myself and sleep enough tonight, I think my back will be better tomorrow. In every other sense, I am MUCH better than okay. Lots going on, but things are genuinely good, and I'm getting a lot taken care of. Though I could use more sewing work; money is tight.

25. Why do you think so many people cheat?
Motivation is complicated stuff. I don't think there's any one reason.

26. Tell me what's on your mind?
19th century sewing, mostly. Also, the macaroni and cheese that I'm going to eat for dinner in a few minutes.

27. What are you looking forward to in the next three months?
We went over a lot of this under what I'm excited about, some questions back.

28. Have you ever worn the opposite sex's clothing?
Sort of. But I don't make a very convincing boy, being primarily composed of breasts. (Not that I ever use hyperbole, no.)

29. When did you last talk to your number 1 top friend?
I'm on to you, survey. YOU ARE FROM MYSPACE.

30. When is your next road trip?
No idea. I don't drive anymore, sooo, no plans to take a road trip anytime soon. Except that I need to persuade someone to take a trip out to Old Sturbridge Village with me soon so I can interview. And also because it is awesome.

31. Do you have someone of the opposite sex you can tell anything to?
There's no one I can tell 'anything' to. But there are people I am close to, of both sexes. And genders. In various combinations. Hi Hampshire, I know you're watching.

32. How's your heart?
Fully functional. Oh, wait, did you mean figuratively? Let's just say...fully functional.

33. Have you ever felt like you weren't important?
Of course. And at times I have been right. I am trying to get better about walking the fuck away from people who make me feel like that.

37. Have you told anybody you loved them today?
Not out loud.

38. Who do you -not- get along with?
Extremists of all forms. People who upset my friends. Most feminists. Some of my modmates. People who habitually use the word 'problematic' without a trace of irony, mockery, or sarcasm. Bible-thumpers. Bigots. My father. My stepmother. Various relatives who embody several qualifications on this list. People who can't be bothered. People who voted yes on prop 8.

39. What does your third text on your phone say?
"Getting hungry yet? When should I come over?"

40. What are you wearing right now?
A black shirt and polka dot panties; my pajama pants are all in the laundry.

41. You're locked in a room with the person you last kissed, how is it?
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

42. When's the last time you had a grilled cheese?
I'm not sure, but I love 'em.

43. What's your fave boy and girl right now?
I refuse to answer and plead the 5th.

44. How did you feel when you woke up?
We've been over this already: wonderfully happy.

45. Do you wish someone would call or text you right now?
Not specifically. I'm pretty well out of commission for the evening.

46. Do you crack your knuckles?
Yes. Frequently and noisily. Actually, ALL of my joints crack. It's kind of alarming.

47. What were you doing yesterday at midnight?
Watching Mad Men and drinking a gin gimlet.

48. What are your LEGAL initials?
ACL.

49. Who's the first B in your contacts?
One of my aunts.

50. When was the last time you laughed really hard?
Last night while I was cooking. I don't remember over what exactly, but it must have been something Sarah said or did, because I remember her gleefully exclaiming "I finally broke Ava!"

51. Your close friend walks out of your life, do you go after them?
Honestly? Not anymore. I'm tired of trying to hold on to people who don't want to be held. If someone doesn't want me in their life, fine. Though if it's just a matter of losing touch with someone, I do try to keep in touch, even though I'm a bad correspondent.

52. Last awkward moment.
I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet that it involved Syd and Sarah! :D

53. Are you afraid of the dark?
Sometimes.

54. Do you have good vision?
Absolutely dreadful, actually. I can't even SEE the eye exam chart without corrective lenses. Thank god for polycarbonate lenses, or I'd be wearing glasses half an inch thick.

55. Have you ever tripped someone?
On purpose? I don't think so....recently....

56. Have you ever slapped someone?
Yes. AND NO NOT IN BED.

57. Are you Irish?
I think a bit.

58. Do you use chop sticks?
I use them quite well, thank you very much.

59. Do you have any scars?
Yes, quite a few. Some from chicken pox. A dent on my right shin from tripping over a six-inch-high rock wall. A white line across my nipples with accompanying pink mark, thanks to a nasty burn from an oven tray when I was seven. Various mild burn scars from irons and popcorn and suchlike. One from skinning my knee on a wall.

60. Is there someone you will never forgive?
Yes. More than one person. I do not believe in forgiving people who don't deserve it. Forgiveness is not always good for the soul. Letting go of negative emotion is, though.

61. Are you dating the person you last held hands with?
Yes, if dating is what you want to call it.

62. Name the last person to text you?
Like Ian, from whom I stole this survey: Kelly. She told me that class was canceled, helpful darling that she is.

63. Would you marry someone 8 years older than you?
The age difference would not be a persuasive factor against marriage.

64. Can you go in public looking like you do?
I should say not. I lack pants.

65. Have you ever kissed someone whose name started with a J?
Yes, assuredly.

66. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
I don't particularly care; generally whichever is more convenient.

67. What’s the first thing you'll do on your wedding day?
The first thing I do every day: take my thyroid pill. :D

68. Do you fall for people easily?
No. But when I do, I fall hard.

69. Has anyone put their arms around you in the past 5 days?
Yes indeed.

70. Do you miss the way things used to be?
No, not really. Only bits and pieces. I wouldn't trade my life now for anything I've ever had. I'm right where I need to be, making progress.

71. Has anyone ever told you they're in love with you?
Yes. And I will leave it at that.

72. Song you're thinking of right now?
"Let Go" by Frou Frou is on.

73. Want someone back in your life?
In the sense that I am sure is intended by this nosy survey - certainly not. Thanks god, finally, no. No one. Imagine that.

74. Will tomorrow be better than today?
In terms of my back pain, I hope so!

75. What’s the color of your shirt you are wearing?
Black.

76. Has anyone ever sang or played music for you personally?
Yes. I am just that inspirational. :P

77. Does it bother you when someone lies to you?
It drives me fucking crazy. I can't stand it. I get extremely anxious just wondering if someone I care about might be lying to me. Social lies amuse me though, especially when I don't much care about the person saying them, and can see through them.

78. Are you a naturally happy person? Or is your happiness forced?
I am a naturally responsive person. When I am happy, I am HAPPY. When I am something else, I AM that. I'm far more likely to pretend to be calm, or attentive, than I am to pretend to be happy. I think it's a waste.

survey, life
