alright, first thing's first, i'm going to stray away from all of this meta bullshit (as much as i love meta, i don't want to drive anyone away before i even get started up) and stick to the facts. it's easier that way, anyway. (maybe)
biography (of sort):
Boyfriend (보이프렌드, pronounced like "boyfriend" because there's not doubt you're going to find one member that appeals to you in that matter) debuted on May 27th, 2011 with their first single, the iconic self-titled, "Boyfriend". they're signed to Starship Entertainment (the same label that Sistar and K.Will are tied to). The song didn't... initially receive that fantastic of reviews from critics but what the fuck do they know, right? They promoted it for a month or two before following up promotions with "You + I".
After a few months hiatus, they came back on October 6th, 2011 with the single, "Don't Touch My Girl". Their third single, "I'll Be There", hit the charts on December 8th, 2011. And by "hit", I mean: it peaked to #2 on the Gaon music charts, an all time high/first for the group.
In the few months that followed, the boys focused more on their introduction to the Japanese music market.They signed with management agency, "Being", before eventually releasing their debut Japanese single, "Be My Shine", on June 7th, 2012. A few days later, on June 14th, they made their fourth Korean comeback with their first mini album, "Love Style", and it's same named single.
After spending some more time prompting overseas in Japan, they came back in November 2012 with their first full length album, "Janus". They promoted the title song for around a month before releasing the album repackage, "I Yah", on January 10th, 2013.
Rewind back to the beginning of December 2010 when they released a few more Japanese singles ("Dance Dance Dance" and "My Lady"). They also held their first set Japanse solo concerts ("Love Communication 2012 ~Xmas Bell~") between December 22nd and 24th.
As for promotions after "I Yah", there hasn't exactly... been any, at least in Korea. They've been spending most of their time either promoting in Japan or not promoting at all. They released their third Japanese single, "Hitomi no Melody", on March 27th and a digital single, "On&On" for their second anniversary on May 23rd, but otherwise? No dice.
Oh, also, their fan club name is "Best Friend".

KIM DONG HYUN (김동현) - leader/lead vocalist; February 12th, 1989
Donghyun (who apparently fancies refering to himself as Korea's Jay Chou), despite being the leader of the group, is known to be not only the most "humorous" of the six members, but the most forgetful as well. He's naturally curious/dubbed himself a "troublemaker" at some point in the past. Before beginning training, his dream was to become a pianst. He's currently attending Myeonji University, where he's majoring in Musical Science.
SHIM HYUN SEONG (심현성) - main vocalist; June 9th, 1993
The second oldest member of the group, Hyunseong, was a bit more difficult to peg during the first year or so after the group's debut because the attention was never really... focused on him, ever. Even during variety shows, he was kind of pushed to the back/not given as much screen time but this has changed a lot since the "Janus" era. He's the only member who's been given the chance to sing an OST for a drama ("The King 2Hearts") and he's been acclaimed for his vocals. Naturally, he's said to be "kind and shy", but he breaks more out of his shell while on stage (ie: showing off his arms and shit like that when he gets the chance to). His childhood dream was to become a drummer.
LEE JEONG MIN (이정민) - lead vocalist; January 2nd, 1994
Jeongmin is probably the most well known member of the group after the Jo Twin's. He was featured not only as a backing vocal but as the lead actor in his collaboration track, "White Love", with K.Will and Sistar's Soyu. He's also kind of... loud, and often found smiling and/or seeming incredibly optimistic about whatever's going on at the time. It's his "charm". He attended Seoul Music High School with Block B's Zico. He's been noted to resemble both SHINee's Onew and VIXX's N. He's also friends with A Pink's Bomi.
JO KWANG MIN (조영민) - main rapper, lead dancer, visual; April 24th, 1995
On half of the "infamous" Jo twins, Kwangmin is the more outspoken/outgoing of the two. Honestly, the best way to tell the two apart is by how they present themselves: Kwangmin is more apt to be bouncing off of the walls than Youngmin, which is why he'd been dubbed the "4D" member of the group. He, along with his brother, onced trained with JYP and appeared in over 300 different commercials through his childhood.
JO YOUNG MIN (조광민) - vocalist, lead dancer, visual; April 24th, 1995
The second half of the Jo twins, Youngmin is the more "emotional" or "sensitive" of the two. It's kind of funny how people try to differentiate the two of them - like, honestly, this was what was written on their profiles. It's kind of true though. If you watch their variety shows, it's obvious that he's a little more on the quiet/thoughtful side. He's the older twin by, like... six minutes or something. Both him and Kwangmin are currently attending the Seoul School of Performing Arts along with the maknae, Minwoo, and various other younger idols.
NO MIN WOO (노민우) - lead rapper, main dancer, maknae; July 31st, 1995
Minwoo, the maknae, has kind of proved himself to be the stereotypical "I'm want to go against the "cute" image" kind of maknae. Who can blame him though, right? He's been said to be pushed easily into a "bad mood", and that he openly comments on his favorite member of the group being Hyunseong, above anyone else. He's attending the Seoul School of Performing Arts with the twins and whichever other idols still go there. He's also a fanboy of SNSD's Jessica.
Honestly, this is the most important Boyfriend to me.
But, really, it's not a bad idea to check out some of their older self-cam's, a decent handful have been subbed. Otherwise, go crazy watching them raw (they're pretty cute, either way). Their Starcalls are pretty cute too.
