Why I call it "Procrastination Central."

While random-searching through LJ, I came across a meme that was new to me: it digs through your journal and pulls out possible haiku, meaning any consecutive run of 17 syllables that doesn't require a line break in the middle of a word. The coding isn't perfect - numbers in particular are utterly beyond it - but I can forgive a lot of a haiku- ( Read more... )

That very last one about the olive jar made me laugh out loud. And I did it on my own journal a few times but they were all crappy.

It got frustrating sometimes watching it grind along one syllable at a time. The olive one was actually the first I bothered to save, and the inspiration for collecting the rest.

The amazing thing is that after spending hours on this, I very suddenly wrote five pages of a paper that I've been avoiding since June. If only more memes had that effect on me.

You don't have many entries within whatever cut-off it observes, but I found you one:this christmas he is
more conscious than ever of
a conspiracy
And one from the sequel to "anyone lived in a pretty how town," which e.e. cummings began before getting hungry and losing interest:our aunt's everything
actually went pretty
well dinner was great
The best part is making up the backstories.

Look, I think this one actually works:its sustained hmmmbzzzzzzzhmmmmbzzzzz
thump bzzzzzz repeated blows on
the doorknocker whrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You have to be a bit selective in your pronunciation of the onomatopoeia, but as long as you can make "hmmmbzzzzzzz" one syllable, it's perfect.

Your journal is really good for this, for some reason. Check it:red and white ribbons
of interstate headlights wrap
around the city

and some memory
of what has been done in the
past dance of joy dance
And my personal favoritei was sitting my
face i found this whole process
excessively odd
What a wonderful thing.

I have no idea how to write a proper haiku, but I like this one the generator pulled for me:

drag me into a
dark enclosed space i will
kill you and not think

Sweeeeeet...

Nice false-parallel structure (Hi, my name is Rachel, and I make up literary terms) with the "in chains i'll/in seattle it's." Plus, BDSM photography is a good niche for you, I think.
