Day 12
Weight 219
Thought: I think my scales are broken
I think my bathroom scales must be broken since my weight seems to keep going down. We had a nice walk around the neighborhood yesterday but alas I got home too late today due to work. The cats love it outside and keep going in and out and in and out so not only are we automatic treat treat dispensers we are also revolving door openers.
Despite going Vegan and canceling beer from our (or should I say my) diets Rose and I have continued to enjoy a glass of red wine with dinners that we make at home. We don't drink wine when going out since it's usually crap and expensive. And all you pseudo wine buffs who keep telling me to buy a Shiraz, they are also more expensive now and the quality has gone way down since the late nineties. Since I work at a science magazine I went around to some of my colleagues and asked them why red wine was good for the diet. No one was actually able to tell me, so I looked it up.
Seems the smart scientists at Barts and the London School of Medicine, and the Queen Mary University in London, may have found a mechanism which points to the benefits of red wine. Finally! They say it appears to interfere with a chemical that is vital to the process that clogs up arteries. One point for the good guys! Their study found that: Cabernet Savignon was the best and white and rosé wines had no similar effect. I found the study in the journal Nature which happens to be our sister publication (namely we are both owned by the same person).
I also found out a very alarming thing: the best cholesterol reducing foods also happen to make you poop the most: Oatmeal and Oatmeal bran (the soluble fiber helps). Kidney beans are also good and brussel sprouts (yuck! yuck! yuck!) are also helpful. So I guess I am gonna start putting sprouts and beans on my morning oatmeal. Yummy! Rose went shopping at Whole Foods today to get some fresh vegetables, and ended up buying 15 soy milk containers! 3 for $5 she said they were on sale! Will be drinking it for some time!
