I think I heard a while back about something to do with gay and lesbian issues and the census. However, the way it was phrased seemed to leave me out, so I didn't look any further. For those who are interested, there is a movement to sexual orientation added to the census. Why?
This article explains better than I can. Anyway, the way this movement is bringing the issue to the attention of the Census Bureau (in addition to a petition) is a big pink sticker that you can use to seal your census envelope that says:
Attn: Census Bureau
It's time to count everyone!
Are you (check all that apply):
[ ] Lesbian
[ ] Gay
[ ] Bisexual
[ ] Transgender
[ ] A Straight Ally
(Clearly, this isn't intended to be the question that they write on the census as "Transgender" should go under gender, etc....) Anyway, I just wanted to point out that this sticker is both available and friendly to all supporters. You can find out more at:
http://www.queerthecensus.org. I will be putting a sticker on my census envelope.
In other news, I'm taking a week off from powdered whey protein and trying to eat my 75g of protein a day from more natural sources - mainly meat and dairy. Our diet is more vegetarian than meat, although we have meat twice a week, and I have a terrible time getting enough protein. To fix this, I eat about 60g a day worth of whey protein. It helps, but I am still tired all the time. Tired all the time
!= happy. So, meat. I feel terribly guilty about this. Meat uses more resources than an equivalent number of calories from plant-based food, plus there are the animal's lives. But for a week, I'm going to try this out and see. I was worried about the cost, but it is only slightly more expensive to go this route. This morning I woke up in a very good mood, which was unusual. However, one day does not causality make, so I'm going to see how things go. I would give almost anything to feel better....
The other weird thing about my good mood this morning is that I definitely have Joel's cold. Right now, my ears are stuffed up and my throat hurts. Joel is now in the more snotty stage, so I expect to be moving along to that very familiar place soon. I can't get allergy shots while I'm sick, though, so I will be going once a week once I get healthy to build back up. Luckily, my regular dosage is low compared to standard, as my allergies are so bad that I can't manage the dosage that one gets if one goes every three weeks. So, it shouldn't take long to build back up to every other week. Thank goodness for shots, though, as my hives are my only allergy feature right now, which is totally unusual for Eugene in spring.
