All is well here. I continue to focus on writing. Honestly, that makes me pretty boring (although I'm actually pretty boring anyway). However, due to feeling better after increasing all my supplements, we were, as probably previously mentioned, able to get out to the immigration center and turn in the paperwork for our free Russian medical insurance. There may be another level of free insurance, but for the moment, this is enough, I think. For now, we only want it to get flu shots.
Also, due to feeling better, I decided that I was able to get the second round of gum surgery (to graft new gums on where they had receded). I had that done in the middle of the week and am now recovering. The bleeding has mostly stopped, and now I'm just hoping that the healing will be not too disgusting. Last time, there were some really disgusting moments, followed by terrible stomach pain due to the disgusting moments. I prepared this time, so hopefully, that won't happen.
Completely by chance, I looked into collagen, which seems to be something that is also screwed up by high levels of cortisol. I have had problems with my skin since I got back from Africa (especially with it feeling like it is tearing) and recently have started to have really serious issues with my hair breaking off (like you touch it and a bunch of strands break off). I made Joel do some reading, and it sounds like I could probably use gelatin insteal of collagen to fix these issues (gelatin is slightly less processed than the really easy to digest collagen supplements). So, yesterday, I drank some gelatin and salty water. It was fucking amazing. I'm sure this is because I have a glutamine deficiency and gelatin has a bunch of glutamine. I really wanted more, so I mixed some in with my evening miso soup. Today, I'm feeling pretty good. I even had the desire to leave the house for a couple of minutes. I'm looking forward really enthusiastically to more gelatin with my miso this evening. With luck, this will help my hair, skin, and sanity. We'll see.
I'm not especially concerned about coronavirus, since I don't really like to leave the house or interact with people and spend all my time writing. However, I do need to eat, so we thought briefly about what I could do if we had to buy a bunch of groceries that would last for a couple of weeks. While I don't expect that this will ever actually become an issue, I now know what I could eat (cabbage, winter squash, and ultrapasturized milk, plus a ton of legumes and freeze-dried beef liver that I take when traveling). It is nice to know that a plan exists, just in case.
