[It was only a couple of days after his fight with Mu - actually, one couldn't even call it a fight. More like a brutal beating, and the proof of it lies in one of the clinic's beds. There are bandages covering nearly every part of Luke's body, and his left forearm lays in a splint by his side. He's sleeping now, having been awake earlier. But thanks to the pain medicine, he's... a little loopy. And it's affecting his dreams, too.

The blue sky is covered with polka-dots, multi-colored balloons that hang in the air, unmoving, though the strings at the end twirl as if they're floating through the wind. The blue mountains in the distance regularly change shape, rising up occasionally before melting into a short and stocky state, as if one were looking at them through a mirage of sweltering heat.

Luke stands in an odd outfit with black hair instead of red, though the style remains the same. The grass that comes up to his knees sways far too much for there being a breeze only enough to rustle his bangs, except he doesn't seem to notice that or the peculiar world he's found himself in. Instead, he looks as if he's speaking to a clown, though the words from both are completely unintelligible, more like murmuring than anything. Luke himself isn't even sure what they're saying, yet he still understands somehow. It's nonsensical, it's neither a task nor an order to die, but just complete gibberish.

Luke nods, and the clown starts to bounce away, growing and shrinking just like the mountains in the distance.]

[She heard about the fighting from the journals largely and when she went venturing around the clinic to see anyone she would recognize, it was rather...unsurprising to see Luke. Paprika obviously didn't see the fight and had no idea why he was so shaken up, but knowing Luke it was probably because he was protecting someone. She remembers quite well how he ran to protect her, while they were in that family world, and how he kept saying during the draft that he would fight for her, if need be. Luke wasn't a fighter, he was just a lover and fought for the things he treasures. Admirable, but reckless.

So, she wanted to talk with him. It's only natural. But, to do it over journal felt rather impersonal. So, the best solution was to simply wait until he fell asleep and then merge with his subconscious. What she sees is...well unexpected is one word for it. It was a stark contrast to the first time she was in Luke's dreams. His clothes and hair are different and...was that a clown? She held back the urge to laugh, feeling that this dream could be the result of some sort of chemical imbalance in his brain more than anything.

As the clown begins to vanish she slowly approaches him. She herself turns into a clown as she does, wondering if it would help to merge with the setting he was in if she was one. ...And maybe it might cheer him up? Hey, it works for the children in hospitals.]

Are you planning to follow the clown? He might be going to a carnival.

[Luke looks at her for a moment, uncomprehending at first. Who was...? Another clown? Or the same one? Even Luke's subconsciousness can't tell, and the balloons in the air waver slightly as if in confusion.

But it doesn't really matter in the end, so Luke shakes his head and stares off at where the clown went. It's gone now, but Luke looks off into the distance as if it went over the mountains. Considering how dreams go, it probably did.]

No. He's off to get the sacred candy. Or something like that.

Sacred candy? Sounds mystical. [She looks at the direction the clown went in now too. A clown going to the mountains? Certainly not the most strangest thing she has ever seen, but why clowns to begin with. Does Luke like clowns? Hm.] What does this candy do?

[... If he thinks about it, the clown that bounced off looked kind of familiar. Short, stocky with a sharp beard and mustache... But he can't place his finger on it. Still, he had always wanted to go to a circus, but never could...

Her question makes him frown in thought, as if he hadn't really thought about it.]

... I don't know. I guess it does whatever sacred things do.

Really? I think they're just supposed to be sacred, but if you say so. Are you going to follow him?

[..... Huh. He hadn't thought about that either.]

... Do you think I should?

I think it's better to ask if you want to. It could be a fun adventure. And hey, we could always see a carnival at the end?

A carnival, huh?

[That's right. He'd always ask, could never go, could never leave his prison of a home. The thought of it makes him smile - grin and spread his arms to his sides, and his feet lift off the ground.]

That sounds fun! I've never been to a carnival before. People would always go without me...

[And as he says those words, he starts to float in the direction of the mountains, which solidify and maintain a stable shape as he gets closer to them. The grasslands behind him, however, start to waver just like the mountains did.]

Woah!

[Yeesh Luke, excited much? Paprika follows after him, still grounded but the dream world allows her to move a lot faster than she normally could. As she begins to go after him she quickly changes her form back to what it normally is, trying to avoid the fading of the scenery left behind them. Running in that clown getup isn't too comfortable.]

Well, I bet you'll have fun there! Carnivals are like a world of dreams coming alive.

That's what I heard!

[Heard and read, more like. A scene in front of them that Luke seems to be mesmerized by plays suddenly, and he becomes unfocused on the surroundings. Red bangs hang in front, longer than Luke's, yet the same color, as they pass by a couple of maids in a rather grand hallway. The voices that represent the maids seem to come from all sides, about how the circus was so fun, and when they look at him they give looks of sympathy and say that they wish they could've taken him -

Abruptly, it ends. And the surroundings vanish, as the pair suddenly find themselves standing on the mountain they were heading towards. It's not that bright blue it was in the distance, though - it's darker, colder, foggier. It's how lonely, frustrated and hopeless Luke would feel when the maids, when Guy or Natalia, when - anyone he knew back then would speak to him that way.]

I hope I'll have fun... Guy was supposed to take me someday.

[She doesn't stop, moving as the scene plays by so she can catch up to Luke on some level. The change in scene never phases her, but she does watch it go by with idle curiosity. Once it's over she's already right behind Luke. ...Such a gloomy mountain. It was a lot brighter before, wasn't it?]

I'm sure he will. You mentioned Guy to me once before I think. If he's as good of a person as you say he is, I'm sure he'll keep his word. For now, we can have a sneak peek.

[For a moment, it stays the same. Then the fog lifts as Luke looks back at her - his hair is red again, though his outfit is the same, and the colors that surround them brighten a bit.]

Is it really true? Are they really like dreams come to life?

Hrm. Maybe. Maybe not? It's all what you make it out to be. I always thought it was like that. Some people are actually afraid of clowns, so it's more like a nightmare for them. [She giggles a little.]

Clowns are supposed to be funny... right?

[If only he could recall that short clown he met... He wasn't such a funny clown in his memories. But after a moment of contemplation, the scene suddenly shifts.

It's night, but only to make the sights that much grander. There are ferris wheels and roller coasters and all sorts of different rides, most of which have never actually been seen in a carnival before and are all a part of Luke's imagination. Lights are on every ride, and everything is all painted in bright colors. It looks unreal - it swirls and changes shape a little, like the ever changing mountains back at the grassland, but Luke doesn't seem to notice. He stares up at the rides with wide eyes, and then he runs forward as if he was a little child despite his still teenaged form.]

This must be it! Maybe the sacred candy's here!

[Paprika watches as the dream changes to some sort of mix between a carnival and an amusement park, smiling as Luke looks in wonder at the scene in front of him. To think a kid could never even go to a place like this, because no one would simply take him. It's a little sad.]

So what will you do with this candy? Eat it?
