[It's dark out here in the desert. Derek is crouched between two palo verde trees, half hidden in the brush around him, and eyeballing the trail of blood that leads further down into the wash. It ends at a man-sized mound of dirt, and as the last of the sunset fades from the sky, the dirt is starting to push, like something is pushing out from beneath.
[During Derek's adventures in nightmare land, Paprika drops down to the desert sand about a few yards from his location. She's dressed in her red shirt and blue jeans as normal.]
Hm. A different dream now? [She looks around and notices Derek near the trees. A sword?] An adventure? [She slowly comes near him, trying not to provoke a reaction. If he turns he might notice the filial wings almost instantly.]
[He does turn; he's torqued pretty high right now, and any movement is likely to catch his attention. He frowns a little, but the sword isn't raised. He glances to the wings, which make him frown even more, but other than standing, he stays where he is.]
I wonder how many times I've heard that before. I hope I didn't startle you. [She looks at the sword again, a little curious.] Getting ready for a battle?
Looks like something is about to go down either way. [She does as she's told. This is his dream after all.] If you need help, just ask. That's what I'm here for...sort of. [She's not exactly sure why she's here. He doesn't look Japanese.]
[Derek's quiet voice responds as he makes his way to his target.]
...Unless you hunt vampires for a living, you're better off back there...
[He's almost crouched on all fours by the time he reaches the mound. Just as he does, there's a screech, and a wild-haired, black eyed woman with huge gleaming fangs bursts from the dirt, already snarling as she leaps at him, clawed hands reaching out to rip and shred.]
[Derek is down on his back, his legs kicking up to catch the vampire right in the stomach. He flips her to the ground behind him, using the same momentum to go with her and end up sitting on her chest.
He swings to cut her head off, and has to duck to the side as those claws scrabble to get a shot at his face. The blade sinks into her neck for a split second before he's flung aside. Soon, they're both scrabbling to their feet and circling for a new opening.]
[The vampire will jerk away in a motion that's almost too fast to see and hisses at her. Before it cna lunge though, Derek is there, doing his best to jam a wooden stake into it's chest.]
[Her outfit suddenly looks different. A baseball uniform, complete with cap and all.] Batter up! [She swings down the bat against the stake as hard as she can, putting all her strength into it. Which in dreams is pretty powerful]
[Derek gets out of the way of that swing pretty quickly, and the stake sinks into the vampire's chest with a sharp 'thocking' sound and a spurt of black blood.
Derek's back after it immediately, swing his sword to chop it's screeching head off.]
He clutches the sword in his hand, waiting.]

Not quite. [There's a sudden groan from the pile of dirt, and Derek's attention snaps back in that direction. He holds up a halting hand at Paprika.]
Stay there. Stay down, and be quiet.
[And then he's stalking, quietly, towards the moving mound.]

Watch out! [She begins to run towards him, a metal bat appearing in her hands. It's the only thing she can think of right now.]
