Yesterday Alex and I bought a house. We met the sellers of the property at our lawyer's office with our broker, and sat down to sign innumerable papers. You see movies where the lawyer has a two inch thick binder of papers, and puts sheet after sheet in front of the client, pointing to places, bluntly telling them to sign here. That was exactly the process for us. I think I've only seen more paperwork in the criminal appeals courts. So we signed a bunch of stuff that we did not read, and it took an hour and a half. I now wish that I had counted the number of initials and signatures I wrote down.

We got the keys to our new home and a hug from our broker. Alex and I then took our pre-packed cooler over to our property. We popped open some champagne and toasted to the completion of a thing that we've worked six years to be able to afford. I was elated. I kept walking around the house saying inane things like, "This is MY window. This is MY column. This is MY skylight. Hey, Alex, I'm going to walk upstairs. Why? Because it's MY house." It was great.

So Alex and I admired our new green and blue view while we played around with some paper cut-outs of the furniture that I had made. We then went back home to alternatively pack and play video games.
