[ It's been, what, a year? Two? She's lost track of time for a bit, although she's aware that it's perhaps somewhere in the middle. She's been gone for the longest time yet, caught up and swept away by her own adventures, her own hunts, and her own personal journeys. Because, you see, Jade had never been a greatly noble woman, concerned with the politics and the outcome of the world.

There is a piece of it she's carved out for herself, where her loved ones belonged, and she would gladly see the world burn before she allowed it to hurt any of the ones she held dear. It was a bold sort of audacity - though some would venture to call it blasphemous, but it is how she works. And it's this day that she returns once more, to a place she used to call home. It disappoints her, really, the blind loyalty to a kingdom that has lasted past its days, that such a feeling would bind a person's entire being and soul to an establishment that is rotting on the inside.

Servitude is not the same as peace. Loyalty is not justice, and Jade had long chosen to break away from the fold. It's only recently that it's been official. It's a true pity that no one else sees it that way.

She steps towards their old meeting place - hers and Ava's - and she thinks that out of everything, she's missed the latter most. It's a complicated thing, really, with layers of feelings and unspoken regrets and everything else in between. There is a faint pang of nostalgia when she spots Ava, closing the distance as fast as her long legs would allow her. But even as she draws near, she suspects that this reception would not be as warm as the previous ones. She knows, right? Ava had to have know.

Nonetheless, she calls out - ] Not gonna say hello?

[ For a moment, Ava doesn't move from where she's seated.

Jade really never changes, does she? Not in appearance, and not in her manner, in the way she handles things, in the way she approaches everything. Ava allows her eyes to linger on that face, on memories of better days, of times where she didn't have to worry as much as she does now.

( It's one thing after another, anymore. )

And then she acknowledges her presence with a brief nod, her name slipping from her lips, neutral and soft, ]

Jade.

[ She stands, then, jerking her arm up and forcing her sword from the dirt, flipping it once over her wrist ( the blade gleams in the dying light as it turns ) as she considers the woman before her. Ava's never been good with words, has never known what she's supposed to say in situations like this, because she always acts first, she's always moving first, too rash and too bold in moments where she needs to remain calm and think.

She's learned, after the many battles she's participated in, that reacting to particular situations violently is really the only choice she has if she wants to protect herself and the people she loves. Caim's always been more patient, reserved, more thoughtful than she could ever dream to be, and maybe that's why they made such good partners, such a capable and formidable team. They completed one another.

Ava holds the hilt of her weapon loosely in her hand, and the tip drags along the dirt again before it comes to a stop next to her foot. ]

[ The past year has been hard on Ava. The woman's more burdened with worries, and she appears just a little older; more weary. And Jade couldn't blame her. Even while away, she still receives news, still checks in on them from time to time, and has managed to stay somewhat informed, even if the things she knows are not complete.

The wicked flash of a blade reminds her of their old ritual - of habits formed years back until now without fail, and here, like this, with a blade in her hand and the danger she exudes even while calm - Jade thinks that she's beautiful. Nonetheless, her hold tightens just little on her spear, although she doesn't make a move.

(Not yet, because while Jade is wilder, more unrestrained in everything that she does, it's always Ava that makes the first move.)

Green eyes twinkle with a rare humor nonetheless, and she pretends not to notice the other's anger. ] Long time no see.
