The therapy room Dean is in looks like every other therapy room at the Facility. Comfortable couch, plush armchairs, a small desk for the therapist, and a large, gilt-framed mirror. The therapists at the Facility enjoy doing “look at yourself and tell me what you see” exercises. (Personally, Dean thinks they’re all full of shit.)
The point is, there is no way Dean can know the “mirror” is really a one-way viewing window. And even if he did, there is absolutely no way he can know the second his brother steps into the room on the other side of the glass. Despite these facts, Dean stops talking to the therapist mid-sentence and simply stares at the mirror.
Later, the Facility employee in the room with Sam will call it ‘uncanny’ to his colleagues (‘creepy’ to his friends), the way Sam and Dean approach the mirror at the same pace. Watching each other with the same intensity, even though Sam is the only one who can see his sibling.
They both raise their hands and their fingers overlap, three inches of bulletproof glass the only thing separating them. They aren't allowed to speak, aren't allowed to see each other at all, except like this.
The Facility says it's because seeing Sam would be detrimental to Dean’s progress. Sam knows the real reason. The Facility is afraid of them, terrified of what the Winchesters are capable of. Sam thinks they don’t know the half of it.
The therapy room has no microphones, some tripe about doctor-patient confidentiality, but Sam watches as Dean’s lips form his name. He presses his hand harder against the glass and thinks, soon.
After he leaves, they find perfect handprints imprinted half an inch in on either side of the window.
A week later Dean Winchester vanishes from a locked down, Level Three room. The room will smell like sulfur for months after.
