Heather's reaction was to squeal and shriek and giggle, and she and Dan completely ignored Paige. They both looked right at her, but it was as though she were not even there. At first she thought they had done it on purpose, but after a few years of experiments and other accidents, Paige was fairly convinced she could purposefully make herself invisible. She figured the only possible explanation was that she was a mutant, but she was too afraid to ask or tell anyone. She didn't want to be studied or poked and prodded, she didn't want other kids to be afraid of HER, she didn't want to be discriminated against, and mostly she wasn't sure if the state would keep her on as a ward.

Then, in her first year of high school, in an English class debate about mutants, Paige (by sitting still and listening quietly) earned both a very bad grade for lack of participation and learned about the X Men, and Xavier's School for the Gifted that fed the program. And just like that, for the first time in her life, Paige had a goal: she would get into that school. The thought of going invisible and getting there immediately occured to her only once; she did NOT feel ready.

She saw her guidance counselor that day and forced herself to make it clear that she WOULD be graduating from high school a year early. Paige then spent the next few years of her life in virtual isolation, studying her schoolwork and trying to practice invisibility on the few occasions she had the chance. The day after she graduated she began working her first full time job, filing records away in a hospital basement once they had been made digital. She gave a quarter of every paycheck to her foster mother, who had agreed to let her stay even though she had graduated (of course, she was not yet eighteen, so they actually had no choice in the matter), a quarter of it she saved, a quarter of it she gave in secret to the two youngest children living in the house, and a quarter of it she would spend carefully, on things like clothes, food, books, and cold and cough medicine.

The day before the school year was to start at Xaiver's, Paige gathered her few belongings and bought a subway ticket. Out of fear and nerves, she accidentally turned invisible walking onto the school grounds. Her bags were seen floating through the air by some students, who of course immediately raised an alarm. After extensive questioning, interviews, and a few demonstrations and preliminary training sessions (all of which she only found MOSTLY mortifying), Paige was given a room and acceptance to the school.

Her goal is not to join the X Men. She does not tend to think in such long terms, regardless. Paige told Professor Munroe, and made it clear from the beginning, that she wishes to study and learn about her power and being a mutant. In return, Storm made it very clear to Paige that she would also learn to fight, to defend herself, the school, and the other students there, if for no other reason.

This was almost a relief to Paige. She WANTED to learn to fight, but if asked how could she possibly have told someone that? And she was greatly comforted, even while being terrified at the newness and great change in her surrounding, at being simultaneously treated as an adult and being told what to do. At the end of the meeting, she suprised them both by reintroducing herself to the headmistress as Veil, though she had always, in her own mind and never out loud to anyone, called herself Ward.

Veil.

That was MUCH better.

Personality:
Introverted and almost painfully shy, Paige is decently smart, fairly witty, and strong. She comes across as quiet, determined, and really rather weak; her strength lies in her continued optimism in her approach to life, regardless of the fact that she always assumes the worst. Paige has been living her life in almost constant fear; as a result she is rather high strung and slightly jumpy. She thinks many things she doesn't say, but is honest with the things she does.

She has little experience with personal relationships of any sort and wants desperately to learn, well, HOW to have them. Paige has a great sense of obligation and also self preservation.

She is also very grateful. For anything and everything.

Strengths:
1. Karate
She took classes from the Y in an after school program. Paige was always the best in class, to her terror and embarassament. She would usually refuse to participate at all if the crowd watching her got too big; the teacher, the student she was competing against, and MAYBE one other. That was where she drew the line.
2. Good at moving quietly and going unnoticed (visible) if she wants to. She's got years of practice at it.
3. Determination
4. Adaptable. Years of flexible living situations are to take credit for this.
Weaknesses:
1. Lack of Training
2. Weak immune system / unhealthy
3. Major self esteem and confidence issues
4. Shy. To the point where she can't accurately express herself.
5. Afraid
Fears:
Humans
Mutants
Herself
Being the center of attention in a large group.
That she will say or do the "wrong thing"

Physical Description: (Please include at least height, build, hair and eye color, and skin tone.)
Tall and slender, with shortish golden hair and blue green eyes, the color of which really depend on what she is wearing. She dresses conservatively and wears little to no makeup or jewelery, though jewelery she does love. Paige has pretty but not exactly delicate facial features, and her smile is rather uncertain and crooked.
Body Model:
Claire Danes

Alignment: (Does your character believe that mutants should be the dominant race, does he/she want peace with humans, or does your character wish to be rid of his/her powers?)
She is completely and totally undecided and really rather uninformed.

Sample RP:
Paige swallowed and felt the lump in her throat catch. She continued to stare at the dark wooden door, which, though she had been here less than 24 hours, already felt familiar. She'd never had a room all to herself, and the rate at which she had become attached to it and comfortable in it somewhat alarmed the teenager. Ridiculous, whispered her innermost voice, and though she knew it was right, still the thought of simply putting her hand on the cool, smooth brass knob in front of her made her palms sweat.

She didn't HAVE to leave right now! After all, class didn't start for another half an hour, and Paige rarely made a habit of breakfast anyway. She had arrived late last night and met a grand total of four people, two of whom were students. And then there was the little matter of the fact that the students had been working under that assumption she was someone bad trying to sneak in, because she had been invisible when they first came across her.

Paige didn't know if anyone had ever bothered to get the official word to them, about it being an accident and a misunderstanding, and she turned and glanced into the mirror on the wall, using it to look longingly at her bed, with its covers promising comfort and obscurity.

Eyes front. Door. She lied to herself, forcing a decision: Now or Never.

Well then.

Now.

She took a deep breath, didn't even bother to wipe her hand off, and walked out of her room.
