Re: Aleida Burton: 1bx_stormJanuary 6 2007, 20:10:02 UTC
A man sat down with Aleida and her mother, explaining the ins and outs of the institute; Aleida was entirely against attending from the moment the man sat down in their living room. There was something off about him. She wasn't sure what, but it was something. Perhaps it was because this was the first time she had ever encountered another mutant, but she was unconvinced that this "institue for gifted youngsters" could give her anything more than her high school already did. Unfortunately her mother simply insisted, and Aleida was forced into attending.
Being that it is her first year at the institute, Aleida is very unsure about everything. She doesn't know anyone, doesn't care to, and is very suspicious of everything around her. Back in her hometown, she didn't have to worry whether wings would sprout from the back of a random student or if one was reading her mind. She spends a majority of her time in her dorm, or otherwise in class, but avoids populated areas at all costs. Who knows what could happen in a group with a bunch of mutants!
Personality: Aleida simply cannot be summed up in just a few words, which is incredibly contradictory considering her feelings toward excessive speech. She is of few words and has a penchant for making the few she does speak, count. Talking is a waste to her: a waste of time, a waste of energy, a waste of breath, a waste of attention, a waste of life. One might expect that a certain shyness accompanied her silent demeanor, but Aleida is hardly shy. She is quite outgoing in most situations and will not hesitate to tell anyone whatever she feels needs to be said. However, usually she can get away with a stern glare, a barely existent smile, or a particularly thoughtful gaze. After all, those are her trademark expressions.
Aleida tends to become frustrated and annoyed very, very easily. She has more patience with others than herself, mostly because she expects others to make mistakes where she believes she is incapable of making mistakes regarding mathematics and scientific topics. Contrary to what one might think, she needs to have rather happy upbeat people in her life to keep her from being entirely serious and growing too haughty. Without these people around her, her tongue grows cynical and sarcastic to the point that even those who love her find her much too abrasive.
Despite all of her scrutiny, sarcasm, and general ill-will toward most others, Aleida is surprisingly kind compassionate and kind to those she cares for. It takes an eternity to gain her trust and her affections, but once you have, you may very well never shake her loose. Not that you would want to by then; if you've taken this long to get past her rough exterior you must be in it for the long haul, and why would you pull out now? When she is willing to shower you with undying love, affection, and kindness?
Re: Aleida Burton: 1bx_stormJanuary 6 2007, 20:10:26 UTC
Strengths: Intelligence - Aleida is incredibly intelligent. For most of her life she has spent countless hours exploring the unknowns of math and science. It always seemed as though she could never read enough, or know enough; she always had more and more questions and it seemed as though no one was ever able to answer them. She enjoys problems that make her think, in fact she tends to get very restless if she isn't mentally stimulated.
Dancing - Ever since she was very young, Aleida has been classically trained in ballet. She is quite skilled at it, but loathes it. It seems a shame to her to not continue something she is so incredible at, so to compensate she began dancing in other styles as well, styles she actually enjoyed. Though she started lyrical and tap a bit later, she enjoys them significantly more and has trained just as hard to perfect both of them to the level of her ballet.
Weaknesses: Extremely Analytical - Aleida, in all of her intelligence, has become incredibly analytical. She has a somewhat cynical outlook regarding others motives (especially now that she is surrounded by mutants with mysterious powers) and spends a majority of her time scrutinizing the actions and words of others in search of some hidden meaning. This leaves her even more mistrustful, which causes herself to isolate herself even more than she might normally.
Lack of Control of her Powers - With such dangerous powers, it is important for Aleida to have control of them. However, whenever she is unconscious or emotionally distresses her control depreciates and things are disintegrated often against her will. This includes her own flesh; Aleida has harmed herself many times, mostly in her sleep.
Very Quiet - Aleida is naturally brief with her words, but her pursuit for knowledge makes her nearly silent as she tries to listen to what everyone says. She chooses her words carefully, and even more carefully she chooses when to use them. Her distinct lack of speech isolates her even more, as few people want to be friends with a human rock.
Superiority Complex - Aleida considers herself much more intelligent than those around her. She is very intelligent, but this superior attitude is directly linked to her distinct need to be better than others. Her brother overshadowed her for all of her life, even in academics; that would never happen again. She would shine like a diamond among rocks, and has extreme difficulties coping with it being otherwise.
Fears: Harming Others - Aleida is terrified that she will harm others with her powers. She is powerful and able to control them for the most part, but she is afraid that she could seriously hurt someone. If she is able to hurt herself so seriously, what could she do to someone else without meaning to?

Physical Description: Aleida has dark, wavy brown hair that she chooses to fuss with it as little as possible. A washing, a brushing, and perhaps a pony tail is as extensive as it gets. Her facial features are incredibly delicate in edition to being very feminine. Depending on her expression there is either a softness or a sharpness about her, and it is always quite clear exactly how she feels. She isn't especially tall, nor short, at an average 5' 6". Her frame is small and delicate, yet undeniably womanly. What she wears tends to vary, though spends about as much time on her outfits as she does her hair. Over all, regarding her looks, not to forget her dull light brown eyes, Aleida finds physical appearance completely uninteresting and that is quite how she likes it. It is hard to sink into the background and listen to everyone talk when boys want to make you the center of attention. Body Model: Amelia Warner
Alignment: Aleida very much wishes that she was not a mutant. Though her mother has tried to convince her that she is special, she really wants nothing more than to be normal. She wants nothing more than her intelligence to be the extraordinary thing about her, not the fact that she can make things disintegrate by touching them.
---- Sample RP:
Leaning precariously over the banister, Aleida did her best to gauge whether or not to have breakfast or retreat back to her room until lunch. Well, it was barely seven and there were few students about; they all looked too tired to bother with her anyway. She had found, since her arrival barely three days before, that large noisy groups of students could be avoided by spending all of your time in your room, only leaving to eat. It seemed, unfortunately, that this was one of the times she had to leave; her stomach was grumbling loudly and it would only be so long before its cries of hunger would wake up her roommate.
Making her way carefully down the stairs, Aleida keep her eyes peeled for anyone who was about. She honestly didn't like this, having to sneak about because she was afraid of the other mutants' powers. Sure this was a school where kids came to learn how to control themselves and their powers, but wasn't it a little naive to say that there weren't any kids here with the wrong intentions? There was always a bad one in the lot, she had always thought, and hell would freeze over before she ran into that one. Or any of the other mutants here, for that matter.
Aleida smiled triumphantly, having made it to the cafeteria without running into - or even seeing - anyone. Well, that was perhaps half the battle. She got her meal quickly, taking a seat before she could think twice about where she chose. As most things tended to, this choice came back to bite her.
A rather friendly looking girl sat down beside her, appearing as though she intended to talk. Aleida practically dove into her cereal, not wanting there to be room for the other girl to talk to her between the chews. Somehow, this odd girl managed anyway. "So," she said in a high, screechy voice that Aleida had anticipated, "are you new here?" It was so early that Aleida had not accessed the kind part of herself and as soon as she was finished chewing, she snapped, "Do you always go around interrupting people when they are trying to eat in peace?" The girl looked hurt, but Aleida was happy to be rid of that cat-yowling of a voice. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad here if she could chase of people with simple sentences like that.
