Science Presentation

Today I presented a lesson on desertification for science class, and there was some interesting feedback regarding my manner of speaking. Some of my classmates liked my precise, measured tone; the prof, on the other hand, thinks I need to loosen up a lot. This isn't to criticize him, it's just discouraging when being spontaneous doesn't come out as such... he suggested I spend time in pubs, watching trashy soap operas, and going to soccer matches. One quote: "you don't want to sound completely alien to them...". Ouch.

Anyway, I'll take what I can from his advice, and like I've been saying all along, if teaching in a Western culture doesn't suit, there's always Asia.
