Sunday I managed to kayak past the Blue Heron without disturbing its hunting. Perhaps this was because it was later in the evening and it was tired of flying away every time a motorboat came close.
Further down, the deer ran off, but, the beaver just sat there gnawing the bark off its stash of sticks, in spite of me stopping to watch about 20 feet away. I was close enough that I could hear the gnawing of his teeth on the branches.
I regularly paddle past that pile of half gnawed sticks, but this is the first time I interrupted the beaver's dinner.
Last week I also saw a Bald Eagle circling over the lake (as I lay on the hammock), and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak larking about in the trees.
I suppose I should mount a waterproof video camera on the front of my kayak, but then it would probably capture everything just to the left of the nifty critter going past.
Of course, before doing that, I might want to figure out something other than duct tape to repair the small crack in the bottom of the kayak. (It leaks about 1Q per hour without any patch.) The existing duct tape stops the leak for about a month...mostly.
