Hypothetical AU meme answers

Sep 27, 2008 11:48

As an end to a hellish half-week, I'm at the office at noon on a Saturday. No time like the present...

To reiterate, meme rules:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

arabwel asked for Once Upon a Time in Mexico as Tolkienesque high fantasy:

Two different types of mythology, but they could be made to fit. El Mariachi is definitely a paladin type, high and mighty and fighting for something larger than life, a Ranger of the West if there ever was one. Sheldon Jeffrey Sands is a more complicated affair, but he is also Loki, and thus we have an aristocrat dabbling in black magic, trying to triple-cross Dark Elves, trapped and blinded and imprisoned until a Ranger opens a cave and has to explain that "Noldor" is not a word in common use in the Third Age.

trobadora asked for a Coldfire superhero AU:

...you mean Coldfire is not a superhero story? ;) It always seemed one to me, with the fight against evil and the iconic imagery. The only factor missing, mostly on Damien's part, is the interaction with the general public. Mass media makes the superhero, and the story I would write would be articles and speeches, the tarnishing of an image and the fight to shine it again. (And the exact gory details of what happened to the one paraparazzo brave enough to crash Narilka's wedding.)

rkold asked for CCD in a Gundam/Space Soap Opera type AU:

For some reason, I see them as the villains. It must be Nokoru's role as Duklyon's boss, but in my head he falls into the same category as Treize in Gundam Wing, idealistic, chivalrous, sneaky, and often needing to be hit over the head by someone with more sense than he has.

Akira would have the coolest Gundam, mind you.

sukeban asked for Pirates of the Caribbean in the Middle Earth:

It's a stretch, but I see Jack Sparrow as an elf. A very old elf, one who followed the idiot Fëanor just to make sure the git gave his ship back, and then tried to challenge him to a drinking contest in revenge for getting the ships burned. Now there is nothing better to do than to roam the coast, because he can never get hold of a ship seaworthy enough to go to Valinor anyway, and what's the fun in that, when there are no more Fëanorians to get plastered with? Best to stay in Middle Earth. He gets to see Maglor every century or so, and gives him new stories to turn into songs. Maglor always leaves the most interesting bits out.

That's enough for today, since I'm through with the reports as well :) Other four to be done later.

pirates of the caribbean, clamp, prompts, silmarillion, ouatim, blather, coldfire
