One of the frustrating parts of being so overweight is the inability to even accurately find out what I actually weigh.

Most scales don't go up nearly as high as I need them to. Most inexpensive scales only go up to about 330. We were able to find one that went up above 400, although I don't recall it's exact maximum. Luckily I'm under 400 now. I know at one point I was up over 410. With all of my clothes on and everything I weighed in at 417 on a freight scale at Kid Glove. That is actually a pretty accurate scale, I've used it over the years and it seems to give very consistent readings. Unfortunately I don't have access to it anymore.

I weighed in at 401 (fully clothed of course) when I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago. I weighed too much for their primary scale and had to go over into another part of the building to get on one with a higher capacity. I imagine that was a pretty accurate reading.

The scale we use at home is very inconsistent. I can't blame it entirely on the scale. At 400 pounds, if the scale has a 2% curve in variation that would cause an up to 8 pound difference every time I step on it. I think 2% is a fairly realistic expectation for an inexpensive scale. This one seems a bit more accurate than that, but not much. I just weighed myself about six or seven times and got anywhere from 372 to 378. I'm going to call it 375. That was without any shoes on. I figured for the sake of simplicity I would say that I started this diet at 400 pounds. I think I might have actually weighed a pound or two more than that.

That means I've lost about 25 pounds, which is pretty awesome. Especially considering that I really haven't been trying very hard. I haven't been exercising at all, and I know that would help a lot. I went off it completely for a couple of months, and just started hitting it pretty hard again about two weeks ago. But even still I haven't been horribly strict. I switched to coffee and tea and diet soda instead of regular soda. Instead of eating out I cook all of my meals at home. It's a hell of a lot less expensive too. I use ground turkey instead of ground beef. I use as many fresh ingredients as possible, but I've still been making stuff like macaroni and spaghetti quite a bit. I haven't even been counting calories or carbohydrates or anything. I know I could cut back more if I need to, but this is working and I've been pretty comfortable. This is the way it should be, a change in lifestyle rather than a strict Nazi diet. If I started getting out and raising my metabolism I bet the pounds would really start melting off. We've been talking about taking Faolan on walks every day, that would kill two birds with one stone. He's been very restless, so much so that he destroyed our sofa the same day we brought it home. It was really nice too. At least it was free. I love Craigslist!

I haven't tried to find a job yet but I've been staying pretty busy around the house. Yesterday I did all of the dishes, washed dried and put away four loads of laundry, paid some bills, cleaned up all of the trash around the house, cooked some hard boiled eggs, and cooked an awesome dinner. We had shrimp with broccoli in a home made white sauce on top of whole wheat spaghetti. In fact, I think I'm going to have some of the leftovers right now for lunch!
