Weekend Round-Up: Casting News!

  • John Barrowman will soon be heading to the fictitious Wisteria Lane. He will play a villain on the hit ABC series "Desperate Housewives." Barrowman is expected to begin filming several episodes in March, which will air in the U.S. in late spring.
  • Lee Mead is to take over as Fiyero in the London production of Wicked, now playing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. He will begin performances May 10, joining a new set of principals who take over earlier from March 29.
  • Peter Scolari will star in the Off-Broadway production of Ben Andron's White's Lies, which will begin previews Off-Broadway March 8 at New World Stages.
  • John Glover, Malcolm Gets and Chris Hartl will star in the Kennedy Center production of Terrence McNally's Lisbon Traviata under the direction of Christopher Ashley. Ashley directs Lisbon Traviata, which will run March 20-April 11. An official opening has been set for March 25.
  • NEXT TO NORMAL may welcome a new, real life couple into the roles of Diana and Dan. Sarah Uriarte Berry, is now preparing to understudy Diana when regular understudy Jessica Phillips is on vacation the week of February 15. The role of Diana will continue to be played by Tony-winner Alice Ripley. Her husband, Michael Berry, currently understudies Dan and Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine. If all aligns, the couple could appear opposite one another during that week.
  • Caroline Sheen, who starred in the U.K. tour of Mary Poppins, will step into the title role of the North American tour of that Cameron Mackintosh-Disney musical next month. Sheen replaces Ashley Brown, who will play her final performance in Los Angeles at The Ahmanson Theatre Feb. 7. Sheen joins the production in Tempe, AZ, where performances begin at ASU Gammage Auditorium on Feb. 11.
