Christopher Sieber to Star in the New Group's The Kid
Tony Award nominee and recent Shrek star Christopher Sieber will star in The New Group’s upcoming debut of Dan Savage’s The Kid, according to The New York Times. Previews are scheduled to begin at a time to be announced in April 2010. Casting and creative details will be released at a later date.
The play is based on sex advice columnist Savage’s 2000 book The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Go Get Pregnant, which chronicles the author’s real life efforts to adopt a child with his boyfriend.
Source Roday and Weston Will Face Extinction Off-Broadway
Television actors James Roday and Michael Weston will reprise their West Coast performances in the Off-Broadway premiere of Gabe McKinley's drama Extinction.
Following a fall run at Los Angeles' Elephant Space Theatre, Wayne Kasserman will again stage the production that will begin previews Feb. 13 at the Cherry Lane Theatre. An official opening has been set for Feb. 17.
Roday ("Psych") and Weston ("House") lead a cast that also features original Los Angeles cast members Amanda Detmer and Stefanie E. Frame.
Extinction, according to press notes is "about what transpires between two college buddies whose annual outing of male-bonding and debauchery veers precipitously off course when unmet expectations spiral into a volatile showdown."

Thesps to star in run of Wooster's L.A. stage prod
Frances McDormand and Maura Tierney will appear in the latest incarnation of the Wooster Group's "North Atlantic," which will have runs in Los Angeles and Gotham this spring.
McDormand, who previously appeared in the venerable downtown theater troupe's "To You, the Birdie! (Phedre)," and Tierney will star alongside Wooster Group regulars including Kate Valk, Ari Fliakos, Scott Shepherd and Koosil-ja Hwang, among other thesps.
Production is the latest staging of a 1983 outing that was last seen in New York in 2000. With text by James Strahs, show follows a peacekeeping force on an aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic, late in the Cold War era.

In addition to Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman, the cast will also feature Lynne Marie Stewart as Miss Yvonne; Phil LaMarr as Cowboy Curtis; Jesse Garcia as Sergio, a new character; Josh Meyers as Firefighter; John Moody as Mailman Mike; John Paragon as Jambi; Drew Powell as Bear; Lance Roberts as King of Cartoons; and Lori Alan and Maceo Oliver as voices. Pee-wee's talking chair Chairry, Pterri the pterodactyl, Conky the robot, Magic Screen and Randy, will also be on stage at Club Nokia.
- Casting has been announced for the George Street Playhouse's production of the new musical Calvin Berger, which will begin previews Feb. 10. Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, the production will officially open Feb. 19. Performances will continue through March 14. The cast will feature Noah Weisberg as Calvin with David Hull, Krystal Joy Brown and Dana Steingold.
- Karen Ziemba will lead the cast of A.R. Gurney's Sylvia for the Long Wharf Theatre, beginning Feb. 17 in New Haven. Ziemba portrays Kate in a cast that also features John Procaccino as Greg, Erica Sullivan as Sylvia and Jacob Ming-Trent in the roles of Tom/Phyllis/Leslie.
- Jefferson Mays, Elisabeth Waterston and Rocco Sisto will star in Theatre for a New Audience’s upcoming production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. In addition, Measure for Measure will feature Samara Bay, Alyssa Bresnahan, Joe Forbrich, John Christopher Jones, John Keating, Robert Langdon Lloyd, Leroy McClain, Alfredo Narciso, Mary Testa, Graham Winton and Rose Seccareccia in her off-Broadway debut.
