CATCH THIS ONE
While interviewing designer David Rockwell in Las Vegas last week, he let it slip that he'd probably be coming to Toronto soon for the out-of-town tryout of his new musical Catch Me If You Can.
Based on the hit Steven Spielberg film of 2002, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, it tells the story of a masterful young con man who fooled the world with his scams.
The stage version features a score by those Hairspray geniuses, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and stars Norbert Leo Butz and young rising star Aaron Tveit (look for a profile of him by me in Wednesday's Star). It received very positive reviews on its tryout in San Diego last spring.
But a lot of the show's creative team are also busy with Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, which opens in London March 9, 2010 and in New York on Nov. 11 the same year.
Maybe Catch Me If You Can will be hot-footing it up here sometime in between those two dates?
