Gosselaar, Kirk and White to Star in Rebeck's Understudy Off-Broadway
Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Justin Kirk will join previously announced Tony Award winner Julie White in the New York premiere of Theresa Rebeck's The Understudy, Roundabout Theatre Company announced on Aug. 5.
Scott Ellis (The Little Dog Laughed, Curtains) directs the Off-Broadway staging at Roundabout's Laura Pels Theatre. Performances begin Oct. 9 toward an opening of Nov. 5. According to Roundabout, "Box office heroes and washed-up has-beens take heed: the play's almost the thing. In this bitingly witty and entertaining comedy by Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius), the lights of Broadway cast an affectionate glow over this look at one of the most notorious roles in the theatre: the understudy."
White plays Roxanne, Mark-Paul Gosselaar is Jake and Justin Kirk is Harry (the title role).
