  • Obba Babatundé will star as showbiz legend Sammy Davis, Jr. in the world premiere of Sammy by lyricist-composer-librettist Leslie Bricusse. Sammy will run in the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego Sept. 19-Nov. 8. Opening night is Oct. 2.
  • Joan Rivers will play six performances at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in midtown Manhattan beginning Aug. 4. Rivers promises to lampoon "Hollywood, pop culture, celebrities, and award show fashions" in her latest show that will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Aug. 20.
  • FEINSTEIN'S AT LOEWS REGENCY has announced the Fall 2009 performance schedule. It includes: Michael Feinstein and Christine Ebersole (September 8th-12th), Jon Secada (September 15th-19th) and Jane Krakowski (October 6th-10th). The Special Event Series includes Derek Keeling (September 20th) and Kerry Butler (November 9th & 16th).
  • The Frank Wildhorn-Nilo Cruz-Jack Murphy musical Havana will be directed by Sergio Trujillo. He will make his Broadway directing debut with the show; he'll also choreograph. The original musical (not based on the film of the same name) will be seen in a private industry presentation in Manhattan on July 30. Producers are aiming Havana toward the 2010-11 Broadway season following a regional world premiere in June 2010.
  • Cabaret Cares the monthly benefit series that raises funds for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS and Help Is On The Way Today returns in August. Natalie Toro will kick off the series on August 17th. The Evening will include performances by:
    Hugh Panaro, Marla Schaffel, Karen Murphy, Rita Harvey, Carter Calvert, Doreen Montalvo, Scott Nevins, Jeanne Montano, Kevin Earley, Merwin Foard and more.
  • Charles Abbott, Lara Seibert, Tyler Hanes and Charis Leos will appear in the Maine State Music Theatre production of The Drowsy Chaperone.
  • Randy Graff and Susan Kellerman have joined the cast of the Bay Street Theatre's production Motherhood Out Loud, which is set to begin performances July 30. They will replace actresses Margo Martindale and Samantha Mathis in the production that will run through Aug. 1 at the Parrish Art Museum.
  • Adam Cooper, the former Royal Ballet principal dancer and creator of the role of the Swan in Matthew Bourne's all-male version of Swan Lake, has returned to London's Sadler's Wells in his own production of Shall We Dance, a dance tribute to the music of Richard Rodgers. It opens officially July 29 (following previews from July 23), for a six-week run through Aug. 30.
  • Wilson Jermaine Heredia will appear in Tales from the Tunnel as part of the New York International Fringe Festival. Running Aug. 15-28 at the Connelly Theatre, Tales from the Tunnel is written and directed by Troy Diana and James Valletti. In addition to Heredia, the cast will feature Eric Jackson, Vayu O’Donnell, Farah Bala, Geri Brown, Carla Corvo, Heidi Azaro and Sam Rosenberg.
  • Rupert Holmes has joined the creative team as book writer of "Robin and the 7 Hoods," a new musical adaptation of Warner Bros' 1964 Rat Pack pic, which is aiming for a West Coast tryout next summer prior to its Broadway bow during the 2010-11 season.
  • John Tartaglia to star in 'The New Fangled Variety Show' At Comix 8/10. He will be joined by Bobby Daye, Aymee Garcia, Noah Rivera and Jennifer Simard.
  • SHREK THE MUSICAL has announced that beginning August 1st, a new lottery rush ticket policy will now take place at the Broadway Theatre. POLICY: Each day, two hours prior to show time, people who present themselves at the Broadway Theatre box office will have their names placed in a raffle drum. Thirty minutes later, names will be drawn at random for 16 seats at $26.50 each. Winners must be present in order to win and this lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of 2 tickets per person. Winners must provide photo ID at the time of purchase. Only one entry is allowed per person.
  • On Friday, July 31, Constantine Maroulis will appear on "The View."  On Sunday, August 2, Constantine Maroulis makes a guest appearance on IFC's original series, "Z ROCK." "Z ROCK" airs Sundays on IFC (channel 81, from 11pm-11:30pm in the tri-state area).
