Benanti and Cerveris to Star in Broadway's In the Next Room (or the vibrator play)
Laura Benanti and Michael Cerveris will star in the Broadway premiere of Sarah Ruhl's In the Next Room or the vibrator play, which begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre Oct. 22.
Benanti and Cerveris will be part of a cast that also features Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Ruhl veteran Maria Dizzia, Thomas Jay Ryan, Wendy Rich Stetson and Chandler Williams.
Les Waters, who staged the world premiere of In the Next Room at Berkeley Rep, will direct the Lincoln Center Theater production, which will officially open on Broadway Nov. 19.
Press notes for In the Next Room read: "Set at the dawn of the age of electricity; the play centers on a doctor and his wife (to be played by Laura Benanti and Michael Cerveris) and how his experimental therapy affects their entire household."
The work marks the Broadway debut of playwright Ruhl, who has authored Eurydice, The Clean House, Passion Play and Dead Man's Cell Phone.
