In which Michelle sees Rent on tour with Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp!
We always encourage stagedoor encounters and reviews here at
bwaydaily, so I'm going to contribute! Last week, on June 2nd, I saw Rent at the gorgeous Fox theater in St. Louis! Best of all, I WON the fucking tickets on the radio! And they weren't even bad seats! I was psyched.
First of all, on the way to the theater, we passed the best license plate ever belonging to the best theater dork ever. Hilarious. I love this person.
We get there early and I can totally feel the happy, excited energy from the Rentheads in the crowd in the lobby--it was the first performance in STL. Our seats are pretty awesome for FREE TICKETS. I've seen Rent live before and have gone through the obsession and I thought y'know, I want to see this for Adam and Anthony, but I wouldn't have bothered trying to see this tour without them and I didn't think I'd be that excited, but seeing the set there on stage again and being in that crowd really made me excited. By the time the show started I was really happy to be seeing Rent again and of course I cried my eyes out.
I really like Adam and Anthony, but I don't take them very seriously, so my expectations weren't the highest, but I must say that I was very impressed! They both sounded flawless! They were very cute and seemed to be having lots of fun. Adam played Roger all emotional and it was really sweet! They didn't seem they were just going through the motions at all. They do a great job keeping the roles fresh, I think.
The rest of the cast was great, too! I'm not a big fan of Nicolette Heart(sp?)--I think she's pretty annoying--but I usually think most Maureens are annoying. Idina's the only one I've seen/heard that's been endearing imo. Haha. I liked Lexi Lawson and for some reason, I tend to not like a lot of Mimis, too, that's good I guess lol. I was excited to see Yuka Takara and Telly Leung! They're both so cute, but I didn't see them at the stagedoor. :[
Stagedoor time!
lol excuse my huge, scary face, but I was excited, okay? Look how close we were to the stagedoor! We fucking bolted after the show and were like, the third group of people there! I was so pleasantly surprised! The line of course grew very long, very quickly.
Lexi and Nicolette came out pretty early and were very nice about signing. A guy came out and told us they were all going to a party that night, so we might not get lucky. So that was sweet that they made the time. Lexi is gorgeous! lol she seemed kind of scared of us and we weren't even being scary! She must be used to real crazies.
Nicolette was definitely the nicest. Sorry bb, still thought you were obnoxious on stage!
A bunch of the other cast members all ran out in a group, apologizing, but getting the fuck outta there. That disappointed some fans, but they had a party and they're all probably used to getting overlooked anyway.
Omg y'all! It's Anthony! He also seemed very wary of us and tried to avoid conversation and eye contact lol. He signed, though! He is very cute up close. :]
We're all happy with our playbills and then...
HOLY SHIT ADAM PASCAL. lol if any of you know me, you should know that I love making fun of Adam Pascal. It's one of my favorite things. I like him, but he's just so... idk easy to make fun of. Haha, now since I don't take him very seriously and I had heard he has bad stagedoor manners, I wasn't expecting much. Since I was literally right in front of the stagedoor, like three feet away, I see his face walking out the door. Now this was a fucking magical moment.
He was holding a guitar case and some other bag--probably as an excuse not to stop and sign, let's be honest--and he literally goes: "Oh, fuck no. Sorry guys, another time..." and gets the fuck out of there.
lmao it was hilarious and I'll treasure that memory forever. A bunch of the other fans were disappointed and this one girl yells "BUT THERE'S NO DAY BUT TODAY!" It was so funny.
So in conclusion: the show was really, very good. I suggest going if it comes near you, whether or not you're a huge fan of Adam and Anthony. Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised. I had realistic stagedoor expectations, so I had lots of fun and laughs, even if the actors didn't. 8]
