I procrastinated about making an August post, so here it is with the September movies as well.

What you may not know about the 1961 Hayley Mills version of The Parent Trap is that it features what some consider to be one of the worst songs of all time. (Number 16)

And surprisingly it was written by the Sherman Brothers.
I don't think it was as bad as all that, though. There were some worse songs from the 1960's, mostly from the "beach films". Usually starring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.

Well, in that case you might enjoy this tongue-in-cheek accusation that Miss Funicello ghost sang on "Let's Get Together" for Hayley Mills. (About halfway down the page)

I suspected that that was the case after I watched it but couldn't be sure.

I loved geeking out on all of the Star Wars aspects of Hidden Fortress.
Seeing the Japanese peasant likenesses of R2D2 and C3PO wandering around made me happy.

The Man From Laramie is certainly one of the best Stewart/Mann westerns. The shooting through the hand scene is so haunting in its reality of the pain and fear portrayed. And well, I love the vengeful Jimmy too--he finds the right tone for his performance.

I actually prefer Winchester '73 or The Naked Spur more, but still a good western. In the latter he is just seething with vengeance, that is until the last moments of the film where redemption is a requisite in a Hollywood film.

I would rank The Naked Spur a tiny notch above The Man From Laramie because the overall cast of characters makes it all the more interesting. And the story of exactly why he is so seeting with vengeance is given away bit by bit. I like the suspense of that; learning about the character through hints here and there. Despite the "Hollywood ending" Jim did a remarkable breakdown performance at the end of The Naked Spur.
