Well, as I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm making the big move across the East River to Astoria in July. My sister is moving up from sunny Texas to brave the New York Public School System and we're going to be roomies! I'm tres excited about this development for many reasons: chosing my own furniture layout, paint rooms as I feel like, buying new towels, etc. It'll be the first time I'll be moving in somewhere new! Apart from the fact that it will cost me a fortune to make this move since I own nothing but TiVo, it's going to be fun to have some family around and I love a good new beginning.
But here's the part I don't understand. Apartment hunting in New York. I mean, I'm looking for aparts on July 1, that's like 33 days away, and everyone I've talked to has been like, "oh, they need you in sooner than that." So, how much time am I supposed to give? Like, I'm just supposed to leave it until the last 4 days and then pray I find something I like? I am WAY to anal to apartment hunt that way. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm trying not to use a broker, but it seems that is the best way to go. *dies at the thought of paying broker's fees* I know it will all work out but any advice people want to pass on would be much appreciated. I'm back to browsing craigslist. Happy Memorial Day a tous!
