Since the last post, I went back a bit and caught pulse_state's post about what happened at Necto last Monday here. As long as its public knowledge, I feel free to talk about it here.

Looks to me that Pulse State was told that he was playing on the 24th a week in advance. And die_puny_human announced it on his LJ on Friday. I happened to see this last entry late Saturday ( Read more... )

Sorry about the scheduling mix up and how things went down. Not to cool, but I've had it happen to me as well at clubs. I've had unannounced 'opening' dj's' spinning when I got there to my surprise. I've had my scheduled times pushed back or cut entirely. I've been told to go on earlier then expected. At Infest my first set was supposed to be over an hour and it was like 40 minutes. (Second set rectified that by being extended however)

DJ'ing is rather cut-throat at times. Few clubs and more DJ's than one can count makes it hard to have the opportunities to spin. Sometimes you have to kick the doors down. Look how long it took me to get into City Club and I'm still just an alternate who doesn't spin every week. You sometimes have to keep pestering the clubs/other dj's who have offered them, for spots and take what you can get while remaining VERY flexible as well. Sometimes you have to show some muscle and be aggressive and put up with peoples bullshit until you get what you want.

Thankfully you've got DIU where you can showcase your skills/musical knowledge on a weekly basis. The clubs are only ONE aspect of this musical community mind you, getting new music out there via internet broadcasting is just as/maybe more important than a good club set.

Maybe you could even record and mix a dj mix cd to hand out to people

I know you love the music so keep at it with DIU and the more frequent club gigs will evcentually come as well.
