beep beep beep beep, the sound of the cars in the street | why dosk rocks

Okay, currently I am (not) writing my christmas cards (because I am updating livejournal and digging over the email mountain like a compost heap). Yesterday, we went to Lakeside (a shopping centre in Thurrock that mummyfrog prefers over Bluewater), I knew the "broadwalk" had gone with all its amazing mini-shops and uniqueness. They had doll-houses and strange and interesting things. And the gadget shops, which were previously wonderful and amazing had gone down so far... ugh, it was all novelty willy sweets and those little yappy dogs that bark and do backflips. I want back the nixie-tube clocks and crazy uses of technology. I can't express how bad and downmarket they've gone, they remind me of Xmas fly-by-nights and it's pretty darn horrible. I also had some lasange and chocolate mouse cake (yummy). Eventually, caffine and franticness went to my head and I felt weird and kind of faint. I was pretty spacey by that point. Also, Waterstones needs to stop showing me shiny things I would like - zum beispiel, lino-cut notebooks, reading diaries, a huge range of graphic novels etc, and really really shiny books of Heath Robinson contraptions, butterfly stamping sets and historical style luggage labels and postcards.

I did get all three presents, although I'm currently wishing I had gone for my initial better-thought-out idea for bbd.

Uh, and the beep beep song (uh, that's an autoplay link, since I don't ctually have it) became my shoping sanity mantra. And bbd found me a little plastic dinosaur, which roamed Next in a Wash-like manner. And I got a book on metalic thread embroidery [which is fueling my latest crazy-ass idea] and a nice map of Chicago with interesting landmarks etc marked and it pops up. It's so much better than my last specimen, which embarrassingly got some place names wrong.

And finally, the_dosk rocks (and I'm not saying that because I am his sister) and after the farcical timetabling and equipment provision, he and his team rocked the computer animation course. Words of random bystander, "We are _so_ screwed". Apparently the most polished and actually working thing that has ever turned up on this course. It has daleks, autogenerating maps and adjustable settings. I'm already excited about seeing this thing when he gets back for Xmas.

shopping, dosk rocks, yearning for things, shiny
