dS Fic: The Mermaids Are Singing PG13 Ray/Ray

Mar 20, 2006 00:12

This was written for the RayK97s challenge (cop a feel of the other kowalski-tastic entries here), and my lyrics were:

I don’t do love, I don’t women named Hannah
And I don’t do red haired girls from Louisiana
(Coahuila)

And this is the result:
Title: The Mermaids Are Singing
Pairing: Ray/Ray
Rating: PG13, there is such a thing as Ray/Ray which isn't ( Read more... )

Oh, this is just lovely and so very right.

I actually skipped the pairing information, but about halfway through I started hoping hard for Ray/Ray, because of course Fraser's stories weren't turning out right. Although I love Fraser/RayK, sometimes I do think Victoria's got Fraser's soul, forever and always, (or the idea of Victoria's got him) and that the Rays actually understand each other better than Fraser understands either of them.

Anyway, beautiful story, and I'm glad Ray's got someone to walk through the wilds of Chicago with.

Thank you!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And maybe skipping the pairing just added to the mystery, :-)

Oh, my. This is extraordinary -- not weird, just unusual and, yeah, kinda brilliant. It sings its own kind of song with rhythm and choruses and verses, in a unique kind of language that is utterly compelling. I don't even read much DS these days, alas, but I am thrilled I was pulled in by your spell.

This is an attempt not to screem, "omg!shay likes my story oneoneone".

Your comment has a unique kind of language too.

oooh. you did different. now i have to read it again to work everything out but:

His mother told him that, but it never sunk in, ‘cause Ray needed experience to teach him, not admonitions.
such a lovely damaged ray.

the sound of light on top of the Riv
love that.

For a moment, Ray wonders if Fraser could hear him singing back on the ice.
and that hurts.

Ray is lovely when he's damaged, isn't he?

Aww...A sentimental (in a good way) Ray/Ray! I loved this bit especially:

It isn’t Vecchio’s official concerned look, the one he uses on witnesses and other people, this is the concerned look he used to save for his Princess, this is the concerned look that asks, am I going to lose you, have you cracked and are they going to send you to the funny farm and I hope Benny gave you escapology lessons.

First, Vecchio's real concerned look, his caring look! Yay! And second, "escapology lessons [from the funny farm]"--ROFLMAO! That is SO Ray (and Ray, and Fraser). And I loved the mean streets as "woods" and the bad guys as "wolves" and all of it. DS definitely has fairy-tale qualities. Maybe more like fractured fairy tales. So this works!

It's the realisation that living in stories never guarantees a happily ever after, but rather that the story cracks up with time and knowledge.

Thank you for reading and your lovely analysis.
