Last night was great. A nice simple evening to celebrate our third anniversary. We had dinner at The Melting Pot, one of my favorite restaurants. Waiting at our table was a little metal treasure box with white and dark chocolate fondues, a corkscrew (now we won't have to use a screw and pliers to open wine bottles), 10% coupons for next time, and a balloon tied to it. I think the balloon was probably supposed to say "Happy Annivesary", but it said "Congratulations" instead. I think there was a mix up because as we were leaving the restaurant, a couple with a balloon that said "Happy Anniversary" was walking out at the same time. OOPS! B said we can think of it as "Congratulations for making it this far!" instead. I did't mind. It was very sweet.
We haven't been there in a long while and one of my favorite memories from that restaurant is of my brother giving the server a taste of his quick wit.
Quick side-story: My brother and parents were visiting on their way through on a trip to Siberia (another story for another time). We took them to the Melting Pot for dinner. My brother, having the sarcastic razor sharp wit that he does, became the highlight of our dinner experience (yes, my family is easily amused). He had a dirty knife and commented to the server about it. The server took the knife and wipes it on a towel he had (unbeknownst to my brother that he had a towel attached to his belt behind him). Immediately my brother being the smart-aleck he is says, "Oh, and wiping it on your butt will make it cleaner". We all lost it and I've only seen my dad turn that red one other time from laughter/embarassment due to a comment from my brother (yet, another story for another time).
OK - that wasn't as quick as I had thought it was going to be. Sorry.
Anyway, our waiter was a self-described starving actor/waiter - a bit chatty, and he rushed us through the courses a little bit. But the food was really good so it was easy to ignore him. The hardest part was deciding on the dessert fondue.
And sneaky B snuck my anniversary gift in the treasure box when I wasn't looking. I now have a pair of beautiful diamond studs (I've always wanted a pair). But I think I'm going to have to get the screw backings put on them. All day today I found myself checking my ears to make sure I hadn't lost one. Definitely need to get those screw backings.
So after that, and dinner winding down we just went home...
and then...*private post here*
Well, now it's really later than I planned to stay up and I have to work in the morning (I really need a vacation). I was hoping to get my Starbuck's fix in the morning and my co-worker asked me to bring him a Venti Latte with six shots (he normally gets eight shots which I'm told is really extreme; and by the reactions of people who hear what I've ordered seem to confirm this). We'll see if I make it - I'm jonesing for some hot chocolate.
