well my decision is now cemented.
I John Charles Benn, do hereby retire from perfoming music. I will, however, perform once more before I give it up. That performance will be for my CD release party. When this will be I do not know as of yet (sometime in the next few months hopefully).
I know this may come as a shock to most of you, but this has been on my mind for quite some time. So rest assured that this was not a hastey decision. I have not played a show since May. In all honesty, I really do not miss it. It just is not that much fun anymore.
The only performing I really care to do anymore are the jams at parties; just a group of people playing for the sake/love of playing.
I do intend on continuing with composing, but this will be for myself. I will continue making CD's as soon as I can get my home-studio up and running. Basically I have chosen to be a 'studio only' musician. How I intend on releasing any material I create I will decide when it is time to do so.
Understand that this does not upset me in any way. On the contrary I feel exhilerated by the idea. Once I remove the stress of trying to think of a way to perform my music in a live setting, I suddenly open up every door of possiblity which I can concieve.
Who knows? Maybe one day I will be fortunate enough to write a movie score or something.
EVERY MAN MUST MAKE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO MOVE AHEAD AND ACCEPT THE TRUTHS OF HIS ADULTHOOD, AND PUT ASIDE THE DREAMS OF YOUTH.
this i have done, and am better for having done it by my own accord and on my own terms.
good night.
