Ouch.

Sore throats suck. Tonsilitis sucks. I hate being sick.

I like red wine called Rumba Lara Phoenix Red, made in Fletcher, Qld. It was only after I drank it that I realised it was fined with gelatine. Now I wonder if I should drink it again. If I'm hardcore enough to not eat marshmallows because of the gelatine, then I shouldn't be drinking that wine. However, what about other wines? I heard they are fined with isinglass... what is that? Something from fish, isn't it? Their bones? I know there are wines that are vegan, but where are they? Do I care enough to look? Am I a bad vegetarian for possibly not caring enough?

I also like sesame and peanut glutinous rice balls. They are my favourite flavour. I also like the frozen and then boiled red beans ones (but not the other red beans ones you get fresh, they're not sweet enough).

The Tea Master is an excellent restaurant/cafe. Their coconut pearl milk tea is beautiful and their miso soup is divine. Both are very soothing on the throat. I can't wait til my throat is better and I can try the laksa and the tom yum noodle soup. Alex had those yesterday (for lunch and dinner... we went back twice) and the little bits I tasted were delicious. Spicy though, and so not nice on my tonsil. The tea eggs look interesting but I don't like them. Jun ate three yesterday. I think she is lacking in protein and that is why she is craving eggs so much lately. Even Scott liked the Tea Master.

While I was sitting there outside Tea Master yesterday, off work because I was sick, but with a soothed throat from the miso soup, I was thinking about Brisbane. It was the first time all day that my throat had stopped hurting enough for me to get philosophical and I was thinking how much I love this city that I live in. I really wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The American cities I've been in were either too large, too dirty, or too remote. Brisbane is just the right size - small enough to not be too busy (the way Sydney is... oy!) but big enough to have everything I want, and to not stand out in a crowd. On the Sunshine Coast I always meet someone I know and that bugs me. Sometimes I want to go out and be anonymous, look like a dag and not have to worry about people judging my appearance. I want to be able to walk down the street and not be jostled by crowds at every step. I want to be able to go... I feel like Malay! I feel like Indian! I feel like Mexican! I feel like whatever I feel like! And be able to just go out and find it... if I don't know if it exists, I can find it. Smaller places aren't like that. I love the facilities here, I love that I can always find something to do, whatever the price range. I love that my friends live here and I'm close to my family. I love that I feel safe here. Brisbane is my comfort zone. It's got the perfect weather, the perfect look... it just complements me wonderfully. I really do love this place. I know that I'm experiencing this city as a resident, not as a tourist and so that changes the experience. There are things here that I love that a tourist wouldn't know of, the same way that I'm sure there are things in other cities I've been to that are fabulous which I didn't know of, as I was a tourist. So I'm biased. I accept that. It doesn't make me love Brisbane less, or want to live somewhere else more. What's wrong with loving your comfort zone, if it's healthy and makes you happy?

It's true, it's a fact... I love Brisbane!! I can't wait til Kari can come back so I can share all of this with her again, and we can explore all the new places. There are always new places to explore here. In the seven weeks she was here, we just scraped the surface. I think Josh will like it too. Now for the visas...

*pushes thoughts of visas away and concentrates on happy thoughts about Brisbane*

I think I need to learn how to drive. If I could, I could go to the video store now, and get a good dvd, and then pop next door to J-Tops and get some coconut/chocolate pocky. Mmm mmm mmm! I only have chocolate pocky at the moment... and some milky ways. There is only one Twix left... oops! Then again, I could eat my take-away miso soup... it's in the fridge. *grins* Maybe I'll go get into some skimpy clothing and laze about in the sun for a while, then come back in for some miso soup. That sounds good.

Yes, I think that's what I shall do. Mmm... the sun rejuvenates me. It's the Mediterranean in me. *chuckles* I'll lie in the sun and then I'll feel better.
