Child substitute

I had another moment last night when I realised how much of a child substitute a pet can be.

Cypher was being a bit needy.  He wanted attention for some reason or another.  Now, while a child may cry and whinge when in this mood, Cypher does the typical cat thing and gets underfoot - sometimes taking a swipe at my ankles as I walk past.

So, I picked him up, and held him in the crook of my arm resting him against my shoulder.

Of course, this was all happening while I was cooking dinner.  So, there I was, carrying my cat on arm while stiring a pot, adjusting the oven, and cleaning some mushrooms with my other arm.   And I realised that is exactly the sort of thing that people with small children do day in and day out...

life, cypher
