Compulsive customization, in progress...

Since I've pretty much given up on the idea of buying a house and can't rationalize an iPad, I opted to sink a bit of scratch into the first iPhone I've personally purchased. Until now I've inherited them from either disillusioned co-workers (who went on to buy later versions) or from AT&T sales reps who wanted to prevent my fleeing to other carriers. This is the first one I've laid down my own Yankee dollars for. The damn thing is gorgeous. Fast, too. Sadly Apple has decided to put glass on both sides. I knew this in advance, of course, yet jumped in anyway.

Turns out nobody sells cases until tomorrow. So, I'm carrying it around in my pocket safely tucked inside the micro-fiber bag from my Oakleys until I can lay my mitts on a proper case.

The odd part in all of this is the compulsivity of customization. Once I got my e-mail and apps set up, I felt compelled to set about setting up sound. I'm now syncing to a laptop instead of the mothership in LA, and so had none of my previously customized ringtones on hand. I just spent $5 setting up ringtones within iTunes simply so that I could have it play a bit of music at me instead of the inane default sounds. Which aren't horrible, but everyone else has them which makes it harder to know which is mine. After five custom ringtones I had to stop myself. I am a menace. After springing for the top model, I should exercise a bit of restraint.

It's hard to argue that a customized "Crazy Train" ringtone is essential.

Time to hit up the web and see whose got cases ready...

crazy, apple, iphone
