I hate April Fool's Day

I never much cared for the tradition of bizarre deceit for comedic effect. I credit my earnest nature for this distaste; as I rarely set out to fool others I don't much appreciate it when others fool me.

Regardless, the one aspect of April Fool's Day that I have grown to love is some of the online gags, like this year's Google/Topkeka swap but most especially those perpetrated by Blizzard. While I remain disappointed that the two-headed ogre was never a dual-player character in WoW, I do look forward to seeing what bit of digital tomfoolery the fine folks at Blizzard concoct each April 1. This year was no different, and I enjoyed their Battle.Net Matchmaking. Miro swears that's something they could actually do and I have to admit he's got a point. What I appreciated most about that gag was one total throw-away "status" message as the system purportedly compiled matches for my orc warrior...

"Land: burned. Sea: boiled. Unable to acquire sky. Please wait..."

(the geekier among you will figure that out in a minute or two.)

I probably would, however, purchase the Deckard Cain GPS.
