"Torture."

Aug 26, 2009 08:40

The CIA released heavily-redacted documents related to enhanced interrogation techniques, which included details of how one interrogator threatened a detainee with a power-drill but never touched them with it. During one of yesterday's news stories there was a guy from the ACLU who said, "If threatening someone with a power drill isn't torture, I don't know what is."

He's right. He doesn't know what torture is.

How about actually using the power drill on someone? That would be torture. Threatening someone with it is intimidation, not torture. The ACLU's rep clearly needs a history class or two; the Inquisition would do wonders for expanding his knowledge of what torture can really be. Or, they could just read up on how Islamist extremists handle their captives; those guys get pretty creative, too.
