"Vintage?!"

I'd loaned an older PowerBook G4 to Mlle. L. after hers died last year. Having recently replaced that trusty machine with my sleek and sexy Angelina, it seemed like a good use of a machine that'd been good to me and held up well.

Then it croaked on Mlle. L., too.

She took it into the local Apple Store where a Genius pronounced it "vintage." Tech must age in some kind of exponential dog years, since it's just over six years old. Turns out it could be any number of things, including the logic board, but that's moot: they don't have any replacement parts. Nobody makes any.

I suspect that diagnosis to be true to a point. The Genius may have been attempting to upsell Mlle. L. on the newly reduced price Macbook line. If I really wanted to get the old girl fixed up I could probably find a shop to do it. However, I've moved on. I'm seeing someone else now, and we get along famously.

At least until a few years from now when even the glorious Angelina is long in the tooth and younger sleeker models turn my fancy.

angelina, power, machine
