Anyone who cares has probably seen this, but since I've been on the clock all day I'm just getting around to it, myself:
Oscar nominations came out Thursday morning.
The Best Picture nominees have me a little confused. I've heard great things about THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (and intend to see it this weekend if I can squeeze it in). I thought SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was great. Dug FROST/NIXON, and have been really wanting to see MILK. I haven't seen THE READER but I have a really hard time believing it really is a better picture than THE DARK KNIGHT.
Am I biased? Perhaps, but I honestly thought THE DARK KNIGHT was also one of the best pictures in 2008. Sure, there are a lot of good ones, but the omission of THE DARK KNIGHT is a pretty glaring distinction between how the Academy views things and how the rest of us do.
However, despite the snub, it's worth noting here that THE DARK KNIGHT returns to theaters Friday, 1/23. It will be on several IMAX screens here in LA, and I imagine on at least a few in other markets. If you didn't see THE DARK KNIGHT in either format before, now is your chance.
Just because the Academy missed out on one of the best pictures of 2008 doesn't mean you have to. Go see it!
(yes, if I can see two movies over the course of this weekend, THE DARK KNIGHT in IMAX will be one of them)
(yes, this will be the third time I will have seen it in IMAX)
(and probably the sixth or seventh time overall)
