A fascinating look at the piracy-fueled economy in north-costal Somalia, from CNN.com: Pirates' luxury lifestyles on lawless coast

Follow-up: Score one for India - Pirate 'mother ship' left in flames
Pirate attacks are spreading farther north to the Gulf of Aden and farther south off the Kenyan coast, Choong said.

"The risks are low and the returns are extremely high for these pirates," he told CNN. Pirates know that their chances of getting killed or captured during a hijacking are very low, he said.

The only way to end this is to start killing pirates. Harsh? Yes. Effective? Definitely.

A small sick part of my brain would love to find out that the Somali pirates have copies of every PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie and were somehow inspired by the franchise.
